Minimal travel required (less than 25%). Hybrid work schedule of 4 days in-office, 1 day remote. Technical Shared Services (TSS) plays a critical role in Southern Company’s success by supporting the projects developed by the operating companies and subsidiaries to meet the needs of the future. TSS Project Controls provides estimating, cost, scheduling, analytics, and reporting services for the wide range of projects managed and supported by the TSS organization. Position Details This role provides technical support for TSS Project Controls reporting and data analytics. The responsibilities of this position include creating visualizations and publishing dashboards to support the analysis of historical project data and future trends. This includes providing day-to-day technical support around data collection, integration, analytics, report building and publishing.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Create visualizations and dashboards, primarily using Power BI and Excel that tells the story behind the data Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL)
- Extract data from multiple sources, e.
g., various databases, Excel files, etc., transform (e.g., join, filter, and concatenate), and load data Use data management techniques to access, integrate, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources Perform predictive analytics on cost and estimating data for TSS-managed projects Perform ad hoc reporting and provide metric development support on business-driven data
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (ABET accredited), Data Science, Business field or equivalent work experience (5 years) Advanced degree is a plus Experience Experience in creating visualizations of complex data sets is required Experience in performing data analytics that delivers clear, actionable insights that drive informed, confident decisions is required Experience with reporting and data management techniques to access, integrate, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources is required Expected skills and experience: Working experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting and visualization program required Advanced knowledge of Excel, including Power Query, Power Pivot, etc. required SQL experience required Model performance metrics to create executive reports and dashboards Oracle Analytics experience is a plus Experience with financial and/or accounting tools and processes is preferred In-depth knowledge of project controls methods, procedures, and tools preferred Knowledge of construction and engineering productivity/earned value processes is a plus Relevant knowledge of Southern Company Projects and Construction is a plus Skills & Abilities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Self-motivated, results-oriented, and innovative Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills Proactive in developing new skills Adaptable to change Strong customer focus Exhibits Southern Company’s “Our Values” (Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance).
