This is a new position that will be expected to maintain our spend database and improve our data processes. We currently maintain an effective view of our spending with thousands of suppliers, so attention to detail and a strong sense of curiosity, along with powerful analytical skills will be essential components of success. Spend data is critical to the effective design and execution of our various sourcing projects. Spend data management is the process of aggregating, classifying, and leveraging spend data for the purpose of reducing costs, improving operational performance, and ensuring compliance.

Spend data management includes:

Extract

  • Develop & support automated extraction of all spend data from internal and external business systems.
    Validate
  • ensure spending data files are accurate and complete.
    Cleanse and classify
  • enable efficient, accurate, and preferably automated rationalization and classification of data elements and attributes. Eliminate discrepancies between incongruent naming conventions and map spend data to industry
  • standard classification systems (e.

g., UNSPSC, Duns etc..) or TEGNA enterprise specific taxonomies. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform ad hoc analysis of various commodity categories
Perform ad-hoc analysis of various deal related economics to support decision making and negotiation strategies
Create data-based views of market facing benchmarking to evaluate the best options for TEGNA
Work effectively with cross-functional teams across the TEGNA locations
Partner with IT & shared center colleagues to create the process and continuously improve the data
Audit existing spend data
Access all spend-data sources within and outside the enterprise
Adopt a common classification schema enterprise wide
Augment category expertise to ensure data and classification accuracy and validation
Classify spending at a detailed level
Enhance core spend data with vital business intelligence
Increase frequency and coverage of spending analyses
Utilize advanced reporting and decision support tools, such as AI, ML, Dashboarding etc…
Continuously expand uses and scope of spend data management program Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
3-5 years in a financial analysis function
Advanced skills required in Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to manage and synthesize large amounts of data from different sources
Ability to collate and create actionable reports from vast amounts of data
Self-starter, ability to work independently
Financial automation tools, methods and procedures Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
5-10 Years of experience
Data Manipulation, Data Entry and Collection Tools
Advanced Access user
Ability to understand accounting principles and accounts payable practices
