$62,868.00 – $72,298.00 Job Description The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. The Operations Research Team is tasked with improving the systems and processes within the Department of Correction, with a focus on decreasing violence, optimizing systems, and improving efficiency across the department. The current team includes specialists with quantitative backgrounds in various mathematical and data-related fields that leverage data-driven approaches to accomplish these goals. Reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Operations Intelligence, the successful candidate for this position will support the Director on large-scale, systems improvement projects. The ideal candidate will be able to perform a wide variety of job duties, including but not limited to: Collect data from various sources including databases, spreadsheets, and other data repositories Serve as a liaison between the unit and departmental stakeholders; Provide project management support; Perform data entry as required; collaborate with external data teams to understand data sources, definitions, and quality issues; Clean and preprocess data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Curate datasets for the team; Prepare reports and dashboards to communicate analysis results to stakeholders; Document data processes and workflows for future reference using graphical modeling techniques; Conduct literature reviews on best analytics practices; Support research projects; take detailed notes during meetings to capture action items, decisions, and key points for follow-up Provide administrative support to the Assistant Commissioner and Director as needed; Work on special projects and other related tasks as assigned Preferred Skills Proficient in Python/R and SQL; Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Visio; Proficient in creating LaTeX documents; Proficient in Tableau or other Business Intelligence tools; Knowledgeable on project management frameworks and tools; Excellent active listening and communication skills; Ability to craft well-written communications; Highly skilled at gathering and interpreting quantitative/qualitative data Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across various divisions and leadership ranks; Ability to develop sustainable, long-term solutions that address root causes; Willingness to take initiative and work independently and/or collaboratively; Interest in criminal justice and correctional systems

Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.
