Job Summary The Department of Research, Assessment, and Evaluation is dedicated to supporting Metro Nashville Public Schools in implementing data-informed and evidence-based policy and practice. The Data Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the department’s Research and Evaluation team with cleaning, documenting, analyzing, and reporting on quantitative student, employee, and school data. The Data Analyst will spend a majority of their time working with large, complex data sets. What you will do
Prepare data and/or analyses in support of the department’s research and evaluation agenda, its assessment functions, and its accountability functions.
Independently produce critical reports and data for local, state, and federal reporting.
Create custom datasets for internal and external stakeholders.
Fulfill internal and external requests for aggregate data, such as public records requests, in a timely manner.
Produce clear written summaries (e.g. reports, briefs, one-pagers, and slides) of data and/or analyses for non-technical audiences.
Support colleagues and others with understanding and interpreting complex data.
Support the department with conducting quality assurance of data and reports.
Design clear and compelling data visualizations and/or interactive data dashboards.
Additional Requirements Assist with departmental and district-level responsibilities as they emerge, including but not limited to school visits and assisting with testing materials.

Master’s Degree in relevant field Required
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of two years’ experience (including coursework) cleaning or analyzing data Required
Experience with data management Required
The candidate should demonstrate a strong track record and interest in working with quantitative data.
Experience working in public education and/or with education data Preferred
Skills and Abilities
The Data Analyst must be comfortable writing code to clean and analyze large, complex data sets using statistical software, e.g. SPSS (preferred), Stata, R, SQL, or Python.
Familiarity with Excel (including macros) and Power BI (or similar software) is a plus.
Superior attention to detail is essential.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication skills.
Equivalency
One additional year of relevant experience may be substituted for a graduate degree. For example, if a position requires a master’s degree and you have neither a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree, you may substitute five years of relevant experience for the required education

Starting At:

$80,067.82 Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
