The Position:
Position General Summary:

The BI Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure, transforming raw data into meaningful insights that drive informed business decisions. This position’s primary focus is collecting, storing, processing, and transforming data into formats suitable for analysis and reporting. This position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to deliver high-quality solutions that empower our organization.

Essential Position Functions:
Data Integration and Transformation:

Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into our data warehouse. Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Collaborate with stakeholders to enforce governance and data security policies. Design and implement data quality checks and validation procedures to uphold data integrity.

Data Modeling and Architecture:

Design and optimize data models to support efficient querying and reporting. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements and create data structures that align with business needs. Design, develop, and maintain queries for data cubes, data marts, and report solutions to facilitate effective data analysis and reporting. Develop complex SQL queries and data transformations to extract insights from large datasets.

Reporting and Visualization:

Design and develop data views, functions, and procedures for reporting data marts, and AI decision making. Support ad-hoc queries, interactive dashboards, and reports using BI tools (e.g., SSMS, SSRS, Power BI and Visual Studio) to enable self-service analytics. Collaborate with users to provide guidance and understand their data needs for data visualization or analysis.

Performance Optimization:

Monitor and optimize the performance of BI systems, including query performance, data loading, and report generation. Implement data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and developers, to deliver BI solutions. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the Data Services team. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others. Minimum Requirements:
Education/Licensure/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Experience:

5+ years of progressive experience as a BI Engineer or similar role, with a focus on innovative development, performance, and analysis 3+ years as a Project Manager or Team Leader preferred 5 years of experience in executing SQL queries and stored procedures 5 years of experience with SQL Server and/or Azure Data Warehouse environment 5 years of experience developing and maintaining database procedures, views, and functions 5 years working with cloud data storage and databases 3 years of experience in data analytics 2 years of DevOps experience and CI/CD methodology Experience with Azure, Data Vault 2.0 Experience with HR, Education, and/or Finance data Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s): Strong proficiency in

SQL, ETL

processes, and data warehousing concepts Solid understanding of data visualization principles and best practices Familiarity with cloud-based data technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is desirable Knowledge of logical data modeling concepts (Dimensional, 3NF, Data Vault 2.0) preferred Ability to work with large volumes of data from multiple sources Ability to write complex SQL queries: TSQL knowledge Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Excellent customer service skills Strong organizational skills Demonstrative skill in attention to detail Ability to function effectively in a high demand environment Ability to work independently and as a team member Ability to compile, review, categorize, prioritize, analyze, and interpret data and/or information
