Job Description

Data Engineer
Job Summary
Lead Tier III academic technology support and training faculty, staff, and students for a variety of digital learning initiatives. Lead the support of digital learning initiatives at Georgia Tech including, but not limited to, production platforms utilized in massive scale-scale online, blended, or flipped educational content delivery; pilots of emerging and novel academic capabilities; and post-pilot transfer of technologies to centralized or unit support. Lead the implementation of new support solutions for academic applications and systems in partnership with clients and cloud providers in collaboration with other units across Georgia Tech. Responsibilities
Job Duty 1

  • Lead planning efforts to align infrastructure, systems, and support structures to support the Georgia Tech academic programs; provide coordination of the overall digital learning experience in supported production and pilot uses.

  • Provide lead technical expertise in rapidly changing platforms and platform options, configurations, and procedures, as well as be able to provide in-depth evaluation of new platforms based upon this expertise.

  • Provide Tier III enabling technology expertise, support, and training to partner faculty, staff, and project teams from initiation to completion for a variety of digital learning initiatives, to include, but not limited to, production IT platforms for massive-scale online educational content delivery and pilots of emerging and novel academic capabilities.

  • Perform lead-level requirements analysis definition, design, development/modification, implementation, integration, and pilot for new and existing academic applications and platforms, utilizing holistic approaches consistent and coordinated with Georgia Tech’s overall information technology strategies.

  • Integrate and manage the technical aspects of educational content delivery solutions, platform configurations, as well as add-on tools and capabilities.

  • Compare and contrast digital learning platforms used at Georgia Tech, either production or pilot, as well as broadly available alternatives, providing comparative evaluation and advice to digital learning manager seniors and architect principals, partners, and faculty.

  • Research and implement archive solutions for educational content assets.

  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional staff on the design, development, and implementation of alternative or novel instructional delivery methods and technologies; identifying ideas, solutions, and resource in response to academic client needs and innovations for use in instruction and course development.

  • Train and mentor Tier I and II support staff in how to troubleshoot and resolve a wide variety of highly complex platform problems and advanced technical issues.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Required Experience
Five to six years of directly related job experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Certified Cloud Practitioner, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), AWS Certified Data Analytics, Tableau Desktop Specialist, Analyzing Data with Microsoft Power BI.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing and implementing data analysis, data collection systems, learning outcomes, and other strategies to monitor and support student success in online platforms.
Experience monitoring system usage and generating reports and data visualizations for assessment and data-driven decision making.
Experience with Azure including specific data technologies such as Data Factory/Synapse Analytics, Dataflows, PySpark Notebooks, Azure SQL, ADLS, etc.

Preferred Education:

Masters degree in Data Science/Analytics, Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related field.
