Job Description

Senior Data Engineer at Humana in Augusta, Maine, United States Job Description Become a part of our caring community and help us put health first The Senior Data Engineer Ingests data from internal and external sources utilizing cloud native platforms and software development best practices and patterns. Develops software tools that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data into insights and actions that enables Humana to better serve our members. Begins to influence department’s strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. The senior data engineer in this role will join a team that leverages predictive modeling and analytics to support Humana’s HQRI (Healthcare Quality & Reporting Improvement) department. The team focuses on risk adjustment modeling for our Medicare and Medicaid business. The HQRI department is a high-performing organization with a key role within Humana. The senior data engineer in this role will partner with data scientists and actuaries to ensure our end-to-end modeling and reporting processes are robust and efficient. The role will also include building new processes and tools as the business needs evolve. The engineer will benefit from a network of software engineers and application developers on peer teams within the department. The candidate must understand the concepts of normalized relational data structures, write and maintain modular code for automation, in accordance with best practices, and develop an understanding of the team’s underlying technology stack. We need someone who can guide the team in best coding and optimization practices within our current tech stack (Azure Synapse Analytics (ASA) and Databricks), and who can be a thought leader as we adopt new technologies.

Objectives:

+ Within six months, take ownership of at least 2 major processes + Within 2 years, lead major projects to build new processes and become a resident expert on coding and optimization best practices relevant to the team Required Skills and Qualifications + 3+ years of demonstrated data engineering experience + Procedural language for automation – Python preferred + Intermediate to Advanced SQL + Experience working in the Azure data ecosystem (Databricks/ASA/ADLS) + Ability to develop modular, reusable code and tools +
