job summary: A Scientific Knowledge Engineer is needed for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. Remote work. This role focuses on defining and standardizing scientific data models and ontologies to support data integration, harmonization, and platform ingestion for large-scale biological research in drug and vaccine development.

Remote, Remote job type: Contract salary: $64.70 – 89.93 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: Define schemas and data models for scientific information to support value-adding data products.
Ensure quality control (validation & verification) of mapping specifications for industrialization by data engineering teams.
Translate business needs into clear data requirements for large-scale biology data integration to support drug and vaccine discovery.
Collaborate with external groups to align internal data standards with industry/academic ontologies.
Support effective data ingestion by ensuring data meets platform engineering requirements, including metadata structure and indexing.
Serve as an R D subject matter expert to convert scientific insights into usable data.
Perform metadata creation, data import, and management across data platforms.
Contribute to data harmonization efforts for improved data standardization and usability.
Work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to support scientific data needs.
Skills:
strong understanding of scientific metadata standards and ontologies.
Experience with semantic technologies and tools (e.g., Protégé, Semaphore, TopQuadrant).Expertise in RDF, RDFS, OWL, SPARQL, GraphQL, and knowledge graph design.
Hands-on experience with data analysis tools (Python, Jupyter Notebooks).Familiarity with NextFlow pipelines and NGS workflows.
Proficient in SQL, regular expressions, spreadsheets.
Experience with version control (GitHub) and data formats like anndata (nice-to-have).Familiarity with biomedical ontologies (DOID, UBERON, CL, NCBITaxon) and data sources (GEO, ArrayExpress, EGA, CellxGene).Experience working in cloud environments (e.g., Google Cloud) is a plus.strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in life sciences.
