Engineering teams aretasked with building software and hardware to automate, analyse andstreamline many processes in the lab. Additionally, Operations needmetrics and insights into how things are running so that they canbe improved. The data for some of these metrics have historicallybeen built by Analysts within Operations. These are now movingunder Software Engineering and we are building a team to support,stabilize and enhance these pipelines We will hire candidates forthis hybrid role in either Menlo Park, CA or Durham, NC.Responsibilities Be a part of a highly collaborative team focusedon delivering value to cross-functional partners by designing,deploying, and automating secure, efficient, and scalable datainfrastructure and tools—reducing manual efforts and streamliningoperations. Help model Grail data to ensure it follows FAIRprinciples (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).Drive the design, deployment, and automated delivery of datainfrastructure, standardized data models, datasets, and tools.

Integrate automated testing and release processes to improve thequality and velocity of software and data deliveries. Collaboratewith cross-functional teams—ranging from Research to Clinical LabOperations to Software Engineering—to provide comprehensive datasolutions from conception to delivery. Ensure all software and datameet high standards for quality, clinical compliance, and privacy.

Mentor fellow engineers and scientists, promoting best practices insoftware and data engineering. Preferred Qualifications B.S. / M.S.in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering,Mathematics, Physics, Computational Biology) with 8 years ofrelated industry experience, or Ph.D. with at least 5 years ofrelated industry experience or equivalent. Extensive experiencedeveloping with relational databases, data modeling principles,data pipeline tools, and workflow engines (e.g., SQL, DBT, ApacheAirflow, AWS Glue, Spark). Extensive experience with DevOpspractices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployment(e.g., Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform).Experience supporting data science and machine learning datapipelines, preferably in the context of biological data analysisand using Python. Ability to embrace uncertainty, navigateambiguity, and collaborate with product teams and stakeholders torefine requirements and drive toward clear engineering objectivesand designs. You are a strong written and verbal communicator andcan adapt your communication style and the level of detail to youraudience. Expected full time annual base pay scale for the bay areais $163K-$216K. Actual base pay will consider skills, experienceand location. Based on the role, colleagues may be eligible toparticipate in an annual bonus plan tied to company and individualperformance, or an incentive plan.
