Role:
As a Lead Data Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in the transformation of the organization’s data infrastructure-moving from Cognos and SSIS to Snowflake and Power BI. While functioning primarily as an individual contributor, you’ll be the go-to expert, guiding architectural decisions, mentoring junior team members, and leading key initiatives. This is a highly visible position that supports cross-functional teams and executive leadership with scalable, reliable, and insight-ready data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performing Snowflake-based data solutions. Act as the subject matter expert for modern data engineering practices and cloud integration strategies. Architect and implement data models using Kimball dimensional modeling and Data Vault 2.0 methodologies. Drive data pipeline development, including real-time and batch ETL/ELT processes. Collaborate with analytics teams to deliver insight-ready datasets that support reporting and self-service BI (Power BI). Build, optimize, and maintain data workflows using tools like Airflow, DBT, or Matillion. Develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring data integrity and consistency. Provide mentorship and project leadership to junior engineers and cross-functional collaborators. Partner with DevOps and platform engineering to enable secure, automated deployments in cloud environments (AWS/Azure). Ensure best practices in data governance, security, and quality assurance are applied across the pipeline.
Required Qualifications:
9+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with 4+ years in a leadership or architectural capacity. Deep experience in Snowflake development, architecture, and performance tuning. Demonstrated expertise in SQL and Python for data engineering tasks. 7+ years of experience developing BI solutions, preferably with Power BI. Solid experience with data orchestration tools (Airflow, DBT, Matillion, etc.). Proven experience building and optimizing data models using Kimball and Data Vault 2.0. Strong familiarity with cloud environments (AWS or Azure), especially in data services integration. Snowflake certification (SnowPro Core or SnowPro Advanced Architect). Experience working with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka). Previous experience in the financial or banking industry. Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills. Comfortable communicating technical topics to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and drive results with minimal oversight. Passion for coaching and upskilling others on data engineering best practices.
