Rank and tenure status will be determined based on qualifications and interests. Candidates must have an MD or other doctoral degree in a related field and relevant postdoctoral experience. Preference will be given to candidates with significant records of research accomplishment, scholarship and recognition in the fields of biomedical informatics, genomics and bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, health informatics, data science and big data analysis, data modeling, electronic health records and clinical information system, clinical decision support systems, disease genetics/genomics, artificial intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), interoperability, human-computer interaction/cognitive informatics, medical imaging/signal data analysis/translational science, and natural language processing. The successful candidate will establish and maintain an independent funded research program that achieves national recognition for its contributions to the field. Advancement will also consider contributions to the educational and/or service missions of the Department. Opportunities exist for collaboration with UAB’s Center for Genomic Medicine, Personalized Medicine Institute, as well as academic and clinical departments across the University and UAB’s health system, comprising a rich and diverse “living laboratory” for informatics research and development. Opportunities for clinical practice, where appropriate, are available and encouraged. Faculty with expertise in generative AI method development, virtual clinical trial simulations, individualized digital twin modeling, and large-scale data mining of gene-disease-drug relationships may be considered for an appointment with the new Systems Pharmacology Research Center (SPARC) and generous additional startup resources to conduct drug discovery team science. Required Qualifications Candidates must possess a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or relevant doctoral degree in biomedical informatics, computer science or related fields; a track record of developing and maintaining a successful independent research program; demonstrated success in collaborating with clinical and/or basic scientists; a track record of published works in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals as first and/or senior author and presentations at national/international research forums; interest and ability to teach methods courses; and demonstrated competences for mentoring (e.g. graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, residents, clinical and or research staff). Physicians who will be involved in patient care must be board certified/board eligible in the pertinent discipline.
