PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience. The full salary range for this position is $71,040 – $122,100 Annually The hiring salary range for this position is $71,040 – $97,680 Annually The deadline to apply to this position is July 11th, however it is subject to close at any time once a qualified pool of applications has been obtained.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The Engineer I / Engineer II position with a specialty in hydraulic modeling will be responsible for a variety of engineering and technical tasks primarily focusing on supporting the utility’s transmission & distribution (T&D), sanitary sewer collection system, raw water, and reuse system models. The position may also manage projects related to modeling, master planning, and/or asset management. A successful candidate for this position could be brought on as either an Engineer I or Engineer II depending on the candidate’s skills and experience.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Apply basic engineering knowledge and understanding to assigned tasks Read, review and understand construction drawings, engineering reports, and operations and maintenance manuals Coordinate and collaborate with team members in the division, department, City and third party as required Initiate and manage consultant contracts as required, including the development of scopes of work and budgets, negotiating contracts with consultants, and coordinating activity involving multiple divisions Write memos, develop presentations, and create figures Deliver high quality work products Be responsive, courteous and customer service oriented

MODELING DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee and/or directly perform the development, update, and maintenance of the hydraulic models representing the water transmission and distribution system (T&D system), raw water system, reuse system, as well as the wastewater collection system (sewer system) Operate the models to answer operations and planning questions in support of various staff and divisions including management, operations, water resources, planning, development review, and engineering Assure new infrastructure meets local and regional system hydraulic requirements by reviewing developer-driven and capital project models for compliance with established hydraulic design guidelines The selected candidate may have the opportunity to manage projects related to master planning, modeling, and/or asset management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or directly related field from ABET accredited program

Experience:
For Engineer I:

Zero (0) to two (2) years of relevant experience performing engineering calculations and performing project (or task) management.

For Engineer II:
Required:

Two (2) years of relevant experience performing engineering calculations and performing project (or task) management. Preference for prior municipality/utility experience.

Knowledge:

General proficiency in MS Office products Knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS), InfoSewer Pro, InfoSewer, AquaTwin Sewer considered a plus

Licenses and Certifications:

Professional Project Manager (PMP), and/or Engineering in Training (EIT), and/or Professional Engineering in the State of Colorado considered a plus Colorado driver’s license with a good driving history

WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing Vision sufficient to read computer screens, printouts, and related documents Dexterity to operate a computer system and other related equipment Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and residents Endurance sufficient to sit and work at a computer for long periods of time Occasional hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for inspection of equipment and facilities Rarely performs activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing Hearing/listening to identify issues

Work Environment:

Primarily works in a clean, comfortable environment This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office This position is stationed out of the Southeast Aurora Maintenance (SEAM) Facility located at 26791 E. Quincy Avenue, Aurora, CO 80016 The work environment may occasionally include field visits to Aurora Water facilities (treatment facilities, pump stations, tanks, reservoirs, etc.)

Equipment Used:

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) during their employment.
