Open Date Aug 01, 2024 Description The Department of Biomedical Data Science at the Geisel School of Medicine invites applications for a full time, 12-month, non-tenurable teaching faculty position in the Lecturer Track. The individual will be appointed at the rank of lecturer, senior lecturer, or professor of the practice, depending on the experience and credentials. Requirements includes a doctoral degree or master’s degree in statistics, data science, computer science, or a closely related field with evidence of the successful application of statistics, data science, or computer science within the biomedical and biobehavioral sciences. A record of teaching, mentoring, or leading a team within these disciplines and/or teaching advance data science concepts, for example within biostatistics, computer programming, big data, machine learning, or generative AI, will be favorably reviewed. The candidate will be appointed in the Department of Biomedical Data Science within the Geisel School of Medicine and will teach courses within the School’s Master of Science programs in health sciences (health data science, epidemiology, medical informatics) and/or Geisel’s Master of Public Health program(s). Courses for this position will primarily be for the online programs that target mid-career professionals, with the option to teach in our residential programs as opportunities arise. Specific course content may vary over the term. Example courses include foundations and advanced regression for health data science, applied machine learning, data wrangling and visualtization, big data analytics, and research design. The total teaching load will be 5 units, with individual courses ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 unit each. Courses are taught throughout the calendar year. As will all faculty positions at Dartmouth, there is an expectation of student mentorship and service in the department and college. The appointment is for a three-to-six-year team, renewed annually upon satisfactory student evaluations and faculty performance reviews. Qualifications Specific requirements for this position include: Doctoral degree or master’s degree in statistics, data science, computer science, or a closely related field with evidence of the successful application of statistics, data science, or computer sciences within the biomedical and biobehavioral sciences.
Experience in health data sciences including computer programming (e.g., R, python), biostatistics, machine learning, applied AI, big data, and/or foundational data science topics such as data wrangling and visualization.
Experience developing new course content within health data sciences for graduate level learners.
Experience delivering existing and new course content in the online and residential formats at the masters/graduate program level(s).
Educating and mentoring a diverse student body that includes students at multiple life stages and a diverse international student body.
Mentoring students during their capstone course where they tackle a real-world challenge within the health sciences.
Contributing to the academic vision of the health sciences master’s programs.
