Senior Data Scientist (Multiple Positions) – Shopify (USA) Inc. (New York, NY).Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines. Transform raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software. Apply data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning to extract and analyze information from large structured and unstructured datasets. Ensure build quality, maintainability, and coherence of pipelines. Answer challenging questions by utilizing advanced SQL techniques. Apply specialized analytical methods to influence change in the organization or improvements to products. Maintain quality code across a collection of files/modules utilizing software libraries. Connect with people and resources outside of Data and direct collaborator groups to ensure the success of projects. Apply technical expertise, domain expertise (product thinking), and Shopify context. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the U.S. up to 100%.

SALARY:

$170,600 – $262,200 base salary per year.

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week, M-F (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must have a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Quantitative Economics, or a related field, and 4 years of related work experience; OR a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Quantitative Economics, or a related field, and 2 years of related work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience with the following: Applied statistics and quantitative modeling, including survival analysis, segmentation, experiment design and analysis, causal inference techniques, and machine learning; Machine learning techniques, including regression, random forest models, or ensemble models; Programming with Python, Spark/PySpark, R, Spark, or PySpark SQL; Write efficient SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze large datasets across multiple databases, leveraging advanced SQL techniques such as subqueries, complex joins, window functions, aggregations, and common table expressions (CTEs); Implement and optimize queries by performing indexing and schema refinements; Translating analytical insights into recommendations and visualizations; Dashboard and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar; Design, develop, and maintain interactive, user-friendly dashboards that provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making; Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications for dashboards that clearly communicate complex data to non-technical users.
