Job Description
Description We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator to join our team in New Haven, Connecticut. In this Contract-to-permanent position, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing database systems to support organizational needs. This opportunity is ideal for a self-motivated individual with expertise in DB2 Z/OS and a commitment to ensuring robust database performance and security.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full lifecycle of database administration, with a focus on DB2 Z/OS and DB2 systems.
- Lead and manage database-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
- Install, configure, monitor, and maintain database systems both on-premises and in cloud environments.
- Enforce data governance policies, including conducting audits of database transactions and security.
- Collaborate with project teams to provide database administration services for IT and business activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, service requests, and change management tasks related to database systems.
- Design and implement reliable backup solutions to ensure database recoverability.
- Monitor database performance and optimize physical data storage across supported systems.
- Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity testing for all database platforms.
- Research and analyze proposed database systems, providing recommendations based on industry trends and compliance. Requirements
- Proficiency in DB2 Z/OS and DB2 systems; experience with SQL Server and Snowflake is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and share knowledge on DB2 technologies.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows OS, Linux/Unix, and Z/OS (Mainframe).
- Expertise in database performance tuning, backup technologies, and configuration management.
- Ability to evaluate and resolve complex issues, presenting solutions to management.
- Experience in optimizing physical data storage and conducting disaster recovery testing.
