Discover why NCDIT is the ideal destination for your professional growth – Why Work for NCDIT We currently have an opening for a Senior Database Administrator The position is designated Statutory Exempt and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency’s remote work program but does require weekly onsite work The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for advanced level planning, development and maintenance of an integrated database system which contains multiple applications consisting of diverse data sets and provides concurrent accessibility of the database by multiple customers. Duties include, but are not limited, to: Install, configure, and maintain database systems, apply patches and updates, and manage user access and security. Migrate databases on-prem to cloud, or across platforms. Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve efficiency and responsiveness. Investigate and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, data inconsistencies, and security breaches. Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to protect data and ensure business continuity. Monitor database usage, forecast future needs, and make recommendations for hardware and software upgrades. Implement and maintain security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access. Execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outages or dysfunction. Create and maintain documentation related to database design, configuration, and procedures. Provide 24×7 production support with an on-call rotation. About the Division The Database Services team provides extensive database management solutions, encompassing the planning, development, and maintenance of databases that range from small to terabyte-scale. The team manages a large number of databases, catering to an expanding demand that includes Oracle, SQL, MariaDB, Postgres, and cloud databases such as AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP. The team provides production support, development support, and user consulting services for DIT customers and other state agencies. About the Organization The N.C. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Demonstrated experience with database technologies Demonstrated experience with backup and recovery Demonstrated experience with database security and/or access control Demonstrated experience with performance tuning and/or optimization Demonstrated experience troubleshooting database issues The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred: Experience with Oracle database administration in a large-scale enterprise environment Experience with various cloud providers Relevant certifications in Oracle and cloud infrastructure/database technologies This position requires a fingerprint-based background search. Hires must agree to a fingerprint-based background search prior to being hired. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and ten years of relevant experience in programming and applications analysis including the design and maintenance of an integrated database system; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
