Paychex North America, Inc. seeks Database Engineer II (Webster, NY)

Job Duties:

Responsible for troubleshooting, installing, configuring, and maintaining databases and applications in support of business requirements.

Duties include:

1.Support cross-functional project teams with sprint planning and execution as well as database support and maintenance activities including database analysis and design, defect identification and remediation, database build and configuration tasks, incident response, and similar IT system support activities to help deliver solutions as required.2.Provides technical support during critical and non-critical business hours on database systems, including problem alerting, analysis, resolution, and follow-up to ensure database stability.3.Deploys, configures, and supports mostly simple and occasionally moderately complex databases in physical, virtual, and cloud environments for use by internal and external applications.4.Performs moderately complex database upgrades/patching as well as periodic health checks in accordance with established policies and procedures.5.Proactively identifies and automates the resolution to database availability and performance failures throughout the environment.6.Proactively identify work requests that can be downshifted to Operations staff or automated via software automation and orchestration tools, ensuring that all working knowledge sets are properly documented and communicated.7.Participates in the creation of database standards, designs, best practices, and roadmaps for IT systems and technologies.8.Creates and maintains technical reference documentation to be used in support and training of Information Technology (IT) personnel.

All Requirements:

Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Computer Science, Managing Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field, plus 3 years of experience in database administration. In the alternative, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) plus 5 years of progressively responsible experience as described. Experience, which may be gained concurrently, must include each of the following:1)3 years of experience implementing, configuring, installing, troubleshooting database technologies including Oracle, MSSQL, Mongo, and Azure SQL.2)3 years of experience debugging database related issues, performance tuning, capacity planning, scalability analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.3)3 years of experience with Golden Gate, Exadata, Delphix and Oracle RAC.4)3 years of experience with database upgrades and patching for Oracle, MSSQL, Mongo and Azure SQL.5)3 years of experience in cloud-based technologies like AWS and GCP.6)3 years of experience in data structures and data modelling.7)3 years of experience utilizing operational intelligence and database performance management tools including Splunk, DPA, OEM and Tuning Advisor.8)3 years of experience writing automation scripts for database technologies using ansible, XLR and Puppet, power shell and Unix shell scripting.

Position requires participation in off-hours release support.

This position is eligible for telecommuting from any U.S. location.
