Position Summary -We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology organization and lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-scale data products. This management-level role will drive the strategic vision for data engineering across the enterprise while managing large-scale data operations built on modern data stack. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with proven leadership capabilities to deliver robust, scalable data solutions that power critical business decisions across our global operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipDevelop and execute comprehensive data engineering strategy aligned with enterprise business objectives and digital transformation initiativesPartner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define data architecture vision and roadmapDrive innovation in data engineering practices, emerging technologies, and platform capabilities to maintain competitive advantageEstablish data engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organizationTechnical ExcellenceArchitect and oversee enterprise-scale data platforms leveraging Microsoft Azure ecosystem (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, Event Hubs)Lead advanced implementation of Databricks for large-scale data processing, machine learning workflows, and real-time analyticsEnsure adoption of data products leveraging semantic models built on PowerBI and enterprise reporting capabilities to deliver actionable business insightsDesign and implement robust data pipelines supporting petabyte-scale data ingestion, transformation, and distributionEnsure data platform security, compliance, and performance optimization across all environmentsOrganizational LeadershipBuild, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of 25+ data engineers, senior engineers, and technical specialistsCollaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated solutionsEstablish talent development programs, technical career progression paths, and engineering excellence initiativesFoster culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the data engineering organizationOperational ExcellenceOversee enterprise data engineering operations ensuring 99.9%+ uptime, optimal performance, and cost efficiencyImplement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities for mission-critical data systemsPartner with Data Platforms team to drive automation initiatives and DevOps practices to enhance deployment speed and operational reliabilityManage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize total cost of ownershipMinimum Qualifications -Degree or equivalentexperience. Typically requires12+ years of professionalexperience and 4+ years ofmanagement experienceCritical Skills – Experience leading digital transformation initiatives and complex technology implementationsStrong background in building and scaling data engineering organizations (20+ person teams)Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services ecosystem (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage, Event Hubs, Cosmos DB)Advanced proficiency with Databricks platform including Delta Lake, MLflow, and advanced analytics workflowsExtensive experience with BI development, administration, and enterprise deploymentStrong foundation in modern data architectures: data lakes, data warehouses, real-time streaming, and event-driven systemsProficiency in multiple programming languages (Python, Scala, SQL, .NET) and infrastructure-as-code practicesAdditional Skills – Experience with P&L responsibility, budget management, and technology ROI optimizationStrong understanding of enterprise data governance, regulatory compliance, and data privacy requirementsProven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to executive stakeholders and non-technical audiencesPreferred QualificationsAzure certifications (Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert)Databricks certifications (Professional Data Engineer, Professional ML Practitioner)Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, financial services, manufacturing)Familiarity with enterprise AI/ML platform development and deploymentPrevious experience at Fortune 100 companies with similar scale and complexityWhat We OfferCompetitive executive compensation package including base salary, performance bonus, and equity participationComprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement planning, and professional development budgetOpportunity to lead cutting-edge data engineering initiatives at global scaleCollaborative culture with access to latest technologies and industry-leading resourcesClear path for continued career advancement within our growing technology organizationCandidate must be authorized to work in the U.S, now or in the future, without the support from McKesson. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson’s pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
