Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Enterprise Database Lead. We are searching for qualified candidates based in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, or Stevens Point. This position will require strong technical problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills. The ability to work, make decisions, and manage projects, both independently, and within a dynamic team environment, is crucial. The Enterprise Database Lead role supports a growing global organization and may require periodic night and weekend work. An initial technical screening followed by a formal interview process will take place once management expresses interest in a candidate.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design enterprise information architecture solutions in compliance with firm-wide data management principles and security controls Escalate data issues to governance as needed and seek resolutions Analyze data across multiple data domains and define strategies to reduce data redundancy and improve data availability Partner with the various technical teams and deliver a maintainable and reusable database architecture Analyze data attributes from multiple systems and help develop common information models Assist with decisions related to data model design, data access patterns, and data services Define and Implement data access controls and monitoring Work with project teams to gather, document, and seek approval of business requirements Work with project management and other architects to provide work estimates and ensure timely delivery of database solutions Work as a liaison between various development teams and their database needs Create deployment packages and support production installations and issues as directed Define, test, implement, and optimize data architecture frameworks Facilitate migration of “on-prem” resources to Azure cloud Adhere strictly to change control and agile project methodologies Provide after-hours support as needed Work with teams that are geographically dispersed and comprised of all disciplines; such as architects, business analysts, developers, and testers Help create and maintain system documentation for existing systems and as-built documentation of net new systems and solutions Research new technology, obtain demos, and provide recommendations for technology enhancements or changes Provide periodic status updates to the stakeholders and escalate issues/risks on time Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills in leading the project team in issue resolution
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum 10 years of work experience in a database discipline Expertise developing and implementing data frameworks, reference models, data modeling (operational and analytical) Some hands-on experience with emerging technologies, such as streaming data capture, change data capture, etc. 7 or more years of hands-on working knowledge in one or more relational database, such as Azure, MS SQL Server (preferred), MariaDB, PostgreSQL, etc. 3 or more years of hands-on working knowledge in NO-SQL databases Experience working with enterprise data warehouse teams and data analytics teams preferred Understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical modeling Experience designing solutions for structured and unstructured data and working knowledge of data streaming platforms Ability to understand API’s, entity models, swagger documentations Strong data analysis capabilities and working data modeling knowledge Ability to deconstruct complex problems to modules, related tasks, and construct tactical solutions with prescribed tools that can be adopted by all data architects Able to introduce new tools or features to the framework
