SECRET Position Overview:
The Information Assurance Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems across the enterprise. This senior-level role ensures systems comply with federal security standards and industry best practices through continuous risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and proactive monitoring of cybersecurity threats. The specialist supports and enforces security policies and technical standards, aligns system security strategies with mission goals, and serves as a key advisor for IT security posture improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct recurring security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify risks and weaknesses across IT systems, networks, and applications. Perform root cause analysis and impact assessment of security incidents; develop and implement response and recovery plans. Develop, document, and enforce information security policies, standards, and procedures that align with regulatory frameworks and organizational requirements. Monitor network and system activity using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms to detect, investigate, and respond to threats. Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of security controls in accordance with the Risk Management Framework (RMF). Maintain detailed risk management plans and security documentation, including Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) and system security plans (SSPs). Collaborate with infrastructure and software teams to implement appropriate security configurations (firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption, authentication controls). Participate in internal audits, technical reviews, and compliance checks to validate the organization’s security posture. Stay informed of emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies to enhance defense-in-depth measures. This position is pending contract award.
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related field, or an industry-recognized IT Certification. (Five years of directly relevant experience is equivalent to two years of education.)
Required Experience and Skills:
Five (5) years of experience conducting vulnerability scanning and performing security risk assessments. Five (5) years of experience working with network security technologies including firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and endpoint protection. Five (5) years of experience utilizing Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools for incident detection and response. Five (5) years of experience supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) implementation and documentation. Working knowledge of Active Directory, UNIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Windows operating systems, and relational databases. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills. SECRET clearance required.
