General Statement of Job The Director of Accountability & Student Information provides strategic leadership in managing the district’s student information system (SIS) and accountability programs. This role ensures the integrity, security, and effective use of student data to support instructional decision-making, compliance with state and federal regulations, and continuous improvement of educational outcomes. Reports to the superintendent.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Student Information System (SIS)
Management:
Serves as the district-level SIS expert, supporting the student information systems coordinator and school administrators. Supports the development and maintenance of school master schedules and processes related to premium SIS products, including those supporting online payments and workflow. Provides training and ongoing professional development on the SIS for school-based and district staff. Collaborates with district departments on SIS-related processes and data use. Assists stakeholders in accessing and using student data efficiently and securely.
Data and Accountability:
Oversees the collection, validation, and submission of all state and federal reports, including the Civil Rights Data Collection, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Supports the District Testing Coordinator in all testing and test-related activities, maintaining alignment with state accountability policies. Collaborates with the Curriculum Department and school administrators to analyze district, school, and student-level data. Assists in the development and monitoring of school and district improvement plans using data-driven strategies. Creates user-friendly data presentations and visualizations to communicate trends and findings to various internal and external stakeholders.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Serves on the district MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) committee and contributes to data-informed student support initiatives. Collaborates with school and district leaders to ensure a culture of data accuracy, ethical use, and ongoing improvement. Stays informed of changes to accountability standards, testing policies, and data system updates from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Performs other related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of school administration and of current educational trends Expertise in student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool/Infinite Campus and associated platforms) Strong knowledge of state and federal accountability requirements and reporting standards Ability to collect, analyze, and present educational data to guide decisions and improve outcomes High proficiency in developing dashboards and visual data reports for diverse audiences Ability to lead professional development and provide technical training for staff Exceptional communication, organizational, and collaboration skills Strong attention to detail with a commitment to data integrity, privacy, and compliance Proficiency in using data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or similar platforms) Basic understanding of computer programming concepts, including familiarity with Google Apps Script, HTML, and
SQL MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience in K-12 education. Master’s degree and effective leadership experience preferred. Demonstrated working with cross-functional teams and managing large scale data projects preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
