We are seeking a passionate and skilled Director of Data Strategy to join our team and enhance our data-driven decision-making. Position Summary Family Promise is seeking a Director of Data Strategy to lead the organization’s data strategy and implementation. This new role is responsible for harnessing data to enhance the effectiveness of our programs, support Affiliates in their work, and drive national advocacy and fundraising efforts. The Director of Data Strategy will work across teams, develop analytics tools, and create compelling data narratives that inform decision-making and storytelling. This is an entrepreneurial role ideal for a strategic thinker who thrives in an undefined space, enjoys building new systems, and has a deep curiosity for data-driven insights. The ideal candidate is an innovator, comfortable navigating ambiguity and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Experience at the local or Affiliate level of Family Promise or other nonprofit service providers is valuable, but this role requires national-level strategy leadership, including designing and implementing systems that scale across a distributed network of 180+ organizations. Key Responsibilities Data Storytelling & Advocacy:

Translate complex data into compelling narratives for funders, donors, and policymakers. Develop reports and visualizations to illustrate program outcomes and national trends. Support Family Promise’s advocacy efforts by providing data that strengthens our case for policy change.

Affiliate Support & Benchmarking:

Use data to help Affiliates improve their work and meet operational standards. Develop tools and resources to enable Affiliates to benchmark their performance in a collaborative, non-competitive manner by building and interpreting cross-Affiliate benchmarking tools that synthesize inputs from varied geographies, systems, and capacity levels into centralized dashboards and actionable insights. Provide data analysis and insights to support program development, impact measurement, and continuous improvement.

Predictive Analytics & Program Impact:

Build models to predict trends in family homelessness and inform resource allocation. Measure program effectiveness and outcomes to drive evidence-based decision-making. Design and manage dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders.

Fundraising & Funder Reporting:

Work with the development team to use data for donor engagement and fundraising strategies. Advise and support the Grants Compliance team in designing and streamlining data collection processes to ensure accurate reporting on funder-required metrics and program impact.

Data Strategy & Management:

Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy for Family Promise, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Oversee data governance, quality, and integrity across the organization and Affiliate network. Identify and integrate relevant external data sources to enhance insights into family homelessness trends.

Technology & Systems:

Design and implement data tools that improve internal operations and Affiliate support, in close collaboration with the technology team behind Family Link , Family Promise’s customized case management system. Optimize Family Promise’s data infrastructure, including Looker Studio, Salesforce, and Google AppSheets. Explore and recommend new technologies to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications & Experience Data Expertise:

Strong analytical skills and experience managing complex datasets. Proven ability to build data systems from the ground up, including selection and deployment of tools like Looker Studio, Salesforce, or equivalent platforms.

Strategic Thinker:

Ability to identify trends, derive meaningful insights, and translate data into actionable strategies.

Entrepreneurial Spirit:

A self-starter who can build new systems and navigate undefined spaces with confidence.

Collaborative Leadership:

Experience working cross-functionally with different teams, including program staff, fundraisers, and policymakers.

Storytelling Ability:

Skilled at communicating data-driven insights in a clear, compelling way for diverse audiences.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of data infrastructure, reporting tools, and predictive analytics. Passion for

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Public Policy, or a related field, with a minimum of 5-7 years of progressively senior experience in data strategy, analytics, or impact measurement. Candidates must demonstrate a track record of leading organizational data initiatives, ideally within a national nonprofit or federated organization. Experience should reflect the ability to operate beyond local program delivery—designing and executing data strategies that inform national direction, support a distributed network, and influence funders, policymakers, and external stakeholders.

Additional information about the role:

Work may be flexible: partially on site in Summit NJ, hybrid, or primarily remote, with some travel.
