JOB SUMMARY
The Data Solutions Architect (DSA) / Director of Institutional Effectiveness oversees Hamline University’s institutional research, data analytics, reporting, and data governance functions. Directing the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, the DSA designs and manages data infrastructure, ensures regulatory compliance, automates data processes, and advises campus leadership and departments on data-informed decision-making.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Architecture & Engineering Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models supporting analytics, reporting, and operations Design and manage data pipelines, ensuring seamless integration across systems, databases, and BI tools Select and implement data integration tools and workflows Define platform architecture and facilitate integration with Workday Data Governance & Quality Establish and uphold data standards, naming conventions, and validation processes, fostering a data-informed culture across campus Implement frameworks for data quality management, cleansing, and monitoring Support strategies for master data management (MDM) and metadata management Ensure robust access controls and compliance with regulatory requirements Data Analytics & Reporting Create and oversee data analytics strategies for measuring student success, institutional performance, and strategic goals Analyze institutional data to generate actionable insights and recommendations Develop and maintain dashboards on student enrollment and success and strategic outcomes; provide related training and support Compile and publish institutional data for surveys, rankings, directories, accreditation agencies, and the university website Collaborate with multiple stakeholders on data collection and interpretation Compliance & Reporting Coordinate accreditation and compliance reporting (eg, IPEDS, NC-SARA, MN Office of Higher Education, US Department of Education) Monitor accreditation standards, ensuring data-related compliance Collaborate on university-wide accreditation processes, providing support for self-studies and site visits Automation & Optimization Explore automation of routine data collection and reporting tasks using AI and advanced technologies to enhance efficiency Ensure data solutions are scalable, cost-efficient, and optimized for performance Learning Outcomes Assessment Work with multiple departments and administrators to support learning outcomes assessments Meet with programs and departments to provide consultation and advice regarding assessment approaches Collaboration & Administration Chair or participate in university committees (eg, Data at Hamline) Respond effectively to internal data requests from leadership Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and student workers Manage the Institutional Effectiveness office budget Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KEY COMPETENCIES
Experience in data architecture (eg, AWS, Azure, Snowflake, SQL, or similar) Expertise in data analytics tools and statistical software (SPSS, R, Python) with experience in AI/machine learning for automation Advanced proficiency in student information systems, reporting platforms (eg, Workday, Google Cloud Platform, Looker/Tableau/PowerBI), and database management Strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and strong problem-solving skills Exceptional ability to communicate complex data to diverse stakeholders Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse university community Exemplary attention to detail and data accuracy Ability to balance competing priorities and simultaneous projects
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPECTATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university Three years of professional experience working with large databases, data analytics tools, data visualization, and using statistical software
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPECTATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a directly related field (statistics, data science, education, etc) from an accredited college or university Five plus years of accreditation compliance work within higher education Five years of professional leadership or supervisory experience Experience with Workday or a NoSQL environment Experience working with student success and other metrics in a university setting

This is a full-time, exempt (10 FTE) position, 12 months a year Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
