Job Description
The City of Raleigh is seeking a skilled and motivated GIS Specialist to join the Transportation Departments Street Maintenance Division. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the citys infrastructure by developing, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data that informs day-to-day operations and long-term planning.
As the divisions dedicated GIS resource, you will work closely with engineers, inspectors, and analysts to support asset inventory mapping, develop interactive dashboards, and assist with data-driven decision-making. Your work will directly impact the maintenance and improvement of Raleighs streets, sidewalks, public right-of-way assets, and more.

- Has hands-on experience with ArcGIS Proand ArcGIS Online
- Understands spatial data management and asset mapping
- Is comfortable preparing maps, reports, and digital dashboards
- Can troubleshoot common GIS issues, such as projection mismatches or data integrity problems
- Enjoys working with field teams and technical staff to translate real-world infrastructure into accurate, usable GIS data

TheStreet Maintenance Division is part of the City of RaleighsTransportation Department, and were dedicated to maintaining the infrastructure that keeps the city moving. Our work includesstreet and sidewalk maintenance, right-of-way operations, infrastructure inspections, special projects, downtown operations, snow and ice response, and cleanup after major weather events.
As part of a growingData and Asset Management group, our team is focused on using data and technology to improve how we deliver services to the public. The GIS Specialist will be the divisions primary resource for geospatial analysis and will work across teams to support data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency.

- Manage and update GIS data, maps, and metadata to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Collect, maintain and analyze asset condition data to assist with work plan development and administration
- Create and deliver high-quality maps for internal teams, reports, and customer requests
- Develop and maintain web-based GIS maps and applications to support operations and performance monitoring
- Provide GIS expertise and guidance on data collection, maintenance, and usage best practices across teams
- Assist with field data collection or inspections, as needed##
Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in information technology, geography, geographical information systems or directly related field and two years of technical geographical information systems experienceORAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
