Ready-Mix Concrete Technical Manager Confidential Florida • Remote Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ready-Mix Concrete Technical Manager to join our team at a leading Ready-Mix Concrete Producer in the United States; this position is located in Florida. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and excellent communication abilities to bridge the gap between technical requirements, production realities, and customer needs. Requirements I.
Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance Mix Design Development & Optimization:
Develop, review, and approve new concrete mix designs to meet project-specific requirements, performance specifications (strength, durability, workability, etc.), cost-effectiveness, and sustainability goals. Optimize existing mix designs for performance, cost, and material efficiency. Manage and maintain a comprehensive database of approved mix designs.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Oversee and ensure adherence to all relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, DOT specifications) and internal quality control protocols. Monitor and analyze concrete test data (e.g., slump, air content, compressive strength) to identify trends, deviations, and areas for improvement. Implement corrective actions and preventative measures for any quality non-conformances. Conduct regular audits of batch plants and testing laboratories within the region to ensure compliance and best practices.
Material Selection & Evaluation:
Evaluate and approve raw materials (cement, aggregates, admixtures, supplementary cementitious materials) from various suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards and mix design requirements. Stay informed about new material technologies and their potential application. II.
Customer & Sales Support Technical Sales Support:
Provide expert technical guidance and support to the sales team on concrete properties, applications, and problem-solving. Assist in preparing technical proposals and presentations for complex projects. Participate in client meetings to address technical questions and build confidence in the company’s capabilities.
Customer Relations & Troubleshooting:
Act as a primary technical point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints related to concrete performance. Investigate and resolve field issues, providing technical solutions and recommendations. Conduct site visits as needed to assess project conditions and concrete performance. III.
Production & Operations Support Plant Optimization:
Collaborate closely with plant managers and operations teams to optimize batching processes, ensure consistent production, and minimize waste. Provide technical support for plant equipment calibration and maintenance related to concrete production. Assist in troubleshooting production-related issues affecting concrete quality or efficiency. Logistics & Delivery Coordination (Technical Aspect): Work with dispatch and logistics to understand the impact of delivery times and environmental conditions on concrete properties and workability. Provide technical input for optimizing delivery schedules to maintain concrete quality. IV.
Research, Development & Innovation Industry Trends & Best Practices:
Keep abreast of the latest advancements in concrete technology, construction practices, and digital tools relevant to the ready-mix industry. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, materials, and processes that can enhance product quality, efficiency, or sustainability.
Continuous Improvement:
Drive initiatives for continuous improvement in concrete quality, production efficiency, and technical services. Lead or participate in special projects related to product development or process innovation. V.
Training & Development Internal Training:
Develop and deliver technical training programs for sales, operations, quality control, and customer service personnel on concrete technology, mix designs, testing procedures, and best practices. Mentor and develop junior technical staff.
External Education:
Conduct educational sessions or presentations for clients, contractors, and industry partners on concrete-related topics. VI.
Compliance & Safety Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure all technical operations and products comply with local, state, and national building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards. Maintain necessary certifications and accreditations for laboratories and personnel.
Safety Protocols:
Promote and enforce safety procedures within technical operations and field activities. VII.
Leadership & Management Team Leadership:
Lead, manage, and motivate a regional team of quality control technicians, lab personnel, and other technical staff. Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Budget & Resource Management:
Manage the technical department’s budget, including equipment, testing, and training resources. Allocate resources effectively to meet regional objectives.
