Tennessee State University Office of Technology Services invites applications for the position of Senior Network Manager. The Senior Network Manager is a key member of the Office of Technology Services ( OTS ) Network team, reporting directly to the Technical Director. This role manages a team of network administrators and oversees Tennessee State University’s wired and wireless network infrastructure. The position demands proactive leadership and extensive experience in designing and managing complex networking environments. The successful candidate must possess a comprehensive understanding of current networking technologies and best practices, including the implementation and configuration of network devices and security controls. This is a full-time, on-site position with a work schedule aligned with the University’s standard operating hours. The candidate must be available to work evenings or weekends as necessary to address emergency or maintenance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and manage the university’s network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and security. Oversee the installation and maintenance of wired and wireless networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, access points, network access control systems, DMZ, and perfSONAR nodes. Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and standards to enhance reliability and security. Manage Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN), Software-Defined Wide Area Networks (SD-WAN), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), wireless infrastructure, and Operational Technology (OT) networks. Monitor network performance, proactively troubleshoot issues, and minimize downtime. Collaborate with IT colleagues and other departments to evaluate networking needs and deliver effective solutions. Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend appropriate enhancements and upgrades. Oversee vendor management, budgeting, and lifecycle updates for network infrastructure. Conduct regular network audits and implement necessary improvements. Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports for management review. Lead regular team meetings to coordinate current projects and plan future initiatives. Provide guidance to technical staff, oversee task completion, and participate in team evaluations.
