Director of Application
The Director of Applications is a strategic technology leader responsible for driving the vision, design, and execution of enterprise applications across the organization, with an emphasis on innovation, scalability, and digital enablement. This includes overseeing business systems, clinical applications, ERP platforms, software development, and mobile technologies, while integrating emerging technologies and AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency, decision-making, and user experience.
This role partners with executive leadership and operational stakeholders to ensure applications are aligned with organizational goals, future-ready, secure, and continuously optimized for value delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Innovation
Lead the strategic direction for the organization’s application ecosystem, with a focus on modernization, user experience, and digital transformation.
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and low-code platforms to optimize workflows and business outcomes.
Develop a multi-year roadmap for application development, integration, cloud migration, and digital innovation.
Enterprise Applications Oversight
Oversee the lifecycle of enterprise applications across business (CRM, HR, finance), clinical (EHR/EMR, patient portals), ERP (Dayforce, D365, Hitachi e-commerce), and mobile platforms.
Ensure high system availability, scalability, and interoperability using APIs, middleware, and secure integration frameworks.
Partner with business and clinical leaders to continuously improve processes, analytics, and user satisfaction.
AI & Advanced Technology Adoption
Identify use cases for AI and automation in both clinical and business domains, such as predictive analytics, intelligent scheduling, workflow optimization, and clinical decision support.
Collaborate with data science, analytics, and product teams to integrate AI into core applications and mobile solutions.
Establish governance and ethical frameworks around the use of AI, ensuring transparency, security, and compliance.
Custom Development & Mobile Strategy
Lead software development teams in delivering modern, cloud-native, and mobile-responsive applications that support operational and clinical excellence.
Promote best practices in Agile, DevOps, and secure coding for rapid delivery and continuous integration.
Oversee mobile application strategies for employee, patient, and customer engagement.
Team & Vendor Management
Direct and mentor a team of application managers, developers, analysts, and solution architects.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure value, service quality, and alignment with strategic priorities.
Compliance, Security & Governance
Ensure all application systems comply with regulatory standards and data privacy laws.
Partner with cybersecurity and legal teams to proactively assess risks and implement safeguards.
Lead enterprise-wide application governance processes, including change control and data stewardship.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise applications, with at least 5 years in a senior-level role.
Proven experience managing complex portfolios spanning clinical systems, ERP, business applications, and software development.
Demonstrated success implementing AI or emerging technologies in a production environment.
Preferred Certifications:
PMP, ITIL, Agile/Scrum Certification
D365, Dayforce, or equivalent certifications
AI/ML or cloud certifications (AWS, Azure) are a plus
Key Competencies:
Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions.
Expertise in application architecture, cloud platforms, API integration, and mobile development.
Understanding of AI/ML frameworks, data governance, and responsible AI practices.
Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
