Director of IT Applications 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars New York State Our hospital client is seeking an experienced IS Director of Application/Informatics to oversee a portfolio of various clinical applications, lead the analytical support team, and align Information Services priorities with organizational goals. The IS Director is accountable to key leaders in the organization, helping define and govern the priorities and activities of the IS Applications Division. They serve as an advisor to the organization on application strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement of applications. ` As a leader in the IS Department, the IS Director often oversees complex programs involving multiple teams and many users. The IS Director is responsible for the success of their team and the IS Department, helping IS analysts and the Department staff balance the daily requirements and strategic priorities of the organization.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Oversee all aspects of Clinical & Non-Clinical Systems Partner with various department leaders to ensure that application development and deployment is performed efficiently, cost-effectively, and technically sound while meeting the needs and goals of the organization. Collaborate closely with leadership to establish and execute application strategies that align with organizational goals. Lead strategic projects, working closely with IS leadership on deployment of new technologies, optimization, and new service offerings. Derby, CT Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:

o Lead the development and execution of the clinical informatics strategy, aligning with the organization’s overall mission and healthcare goals. o Collaborate with senior leadership, clinical departments, and IT to define informatics priorities and ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives. o Provide leadership and direction to the clinical informatics team, including hiring, training, and performance management.

Clinical Systems Integration & Optimization:

o Oversee the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of electronic health record (EHR) systems and other clinical software platforms to ensure seamless workflows. o Drive the adoption of new technologies and tools designed to improve clinical workflows, patient safety, and quality of care. o Work closely with clinicians to identify opportunities for improvement and integrate informatics solutions that meet clinical needs while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Data Analytics & Decision Support:

o Lead efforts to leverage data analytics and business intelligence to inform clinical decision-making, enhance patient outcomes, and improve operational efficiency. o Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and security of clinical data, promoting the use of standardized data for reporting, research, and clinical trials. o Develop and implement decision support tools and clinical dashboards to enhance the delivery of care.

Clinical Quality & Compliance:

o Partner with clinical leadership to drive quality improvement initiatives, utilizing informatics tools to monitor and improve clinical processes and patient outcomes. o Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, Meaningful Use, MACRA, and other relevant standards. o Monitor and address clinical system-related issues that could impact patient care, safety, or regulatory compliance.

Training & Support:

o Provide ongoing education and training to clinical staff on the use of health IT tools, ensuring proper utilization and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making. o Serve as a resource for resolving issues related to clinical systems and technologies, offering troubleshooting support to clinicians and staff as needed. o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in clinical informatics and health IT.

Collaboration & Communication:

o Facilitate collaboration between IT, clinical, and operational teams to ensure clinical needs are met through the appropriate application of informatics. o Communicate effectively with clinical staff, management, and external vendors to ensure the successful implementation and adoption of informatics solutions.

Education:

o Master’s degree in Clinical Informatics, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related field. o Certification in Clinical Informatics (e.g., American Board of Preventive Medicine certification or other relevant certifications) is highly desirable.

Experience:

o Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in healthcare informatics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. o Extensive experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, clinical decision support systems, and health IT infrastructure. o Proven track record in clinical workflow optimization and implementation of informatics solutions that improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Skills & Competencies:

o Strong knowledge of clinical operations, healthcare workflows, and patient care processes. o Expertise in data analysis, clinical decision support, and evidence-based medicine. o Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards, including HIPAA, Meaningful Use, MACRA, and others. o Excellent project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. o Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and educate clinical staff and leadership. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects. o Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with specific EHR systems such as Meditech Expanse or similar systems like Epic, Cerner, or Allscripts. Knowledge of data analytics tools and platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or SQL-based reporting.
