You’ll play a crucial role in developing and enhancing native Android applications used by millions of users across TEGNA’s local media properties. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, shaping the user experience and driving technical excellence in our Android offerings.
Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain high-performance, reusable, and reliable Android code using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and other engineering teams in an Agile environment Integrate RESTful APIs to deliver seamless user experiences Write and maintain unit and UI tests to ensure app reliability and code quality Contribute to the continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines Participate actively in sprint planning, retrospectives, and cross-team collaboration sessions Monitor app performance using analytics and crash-reporting tools, proactively addressing any issues Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation, effectively managing technical debt
Requirements:
3-5+ years of professional Android development experience building end user facing applications Strong proficiency with Kotlin and familiarity with Jetpack Compose Experience working with REST APIs and handling asynchronous operations Solid understanding of Android architecture components and design patterns (e.g., MVVM) Familiarity with automated testing (JUnit, Espresso) and modern CI/CD practices Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to write clean, maintainable code Strong collaboration skills and comfort working in a cross-functional team environment
Preferred Skills:
Experience with video playback, streaming protocols (HLS), or advertising frameworks Familiarity with advanced Android capabilities (e.g., Push Notifications, deep linking) Interest or experience mentoring junior developers
