The Network Engineer implements robust solutions supportingGSOC’s core networks that support the Internet, MPLS core, andnetworks that support the Electrical Membership Cooperatives in thestate of Georgia. The engineer is responsible for troubleshootingnetwork routing solutions to meet business requirements.
JobDuties:
Engineer I:
Assist with implementing projects involving thedesign of new networks and network modifications that take intoaccount alternate routing, load balancing, prioritization, andsecurity. Provisioning of new data circuits, circuit testing,equipment programming and documentation. Provide back up support tooperations and maintenance: assist in the resolution of escalatedproblems in house and at remote sites; provide after-hours supportto the on-call technician as required. Provide performancemeasurement tests from network(s) to identify capacity constraintsand assist in the planning for future enhancements and inidentifying the source for network performance issues. Thisincludes RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) response delay measurements, IPdata performance, and network security penetration tests andassessments.
Engineer II:
Implementing projects involving thedesign of new networks and network modifications that take intoaccount alternate routing, load balancing, prioritization, andsecurity. Provisioning of new data circuits, circuit testing,equipment programming and documentation. Contribute to designstudies, equipment evaluations, and recommendations for newnetworking equipment, services, and technologies. Provideengineering support for network security components, includingCisco, Juniper, Palo Alto firewalls, and VPN clients.
SeniorEngineer:
Manage projects involving the design of new networks andnetwork modifications that take into account alternate routing,load balancing, prioritization, and security. Develop proposals andsecure approvals for networking projects. Provisioning of new datacircuits, circuit testing, equipment programming and documentation.
Provide design studies, equipment evaluations, and recommendationsfor new networking equipment, services, and technologies. Providetraining to technicians on various technologies.
PrincipalEngineer:
Leads the design and architecting of newtelecommunications, data, voice, and fiber networks with all phasesof the project in mind: designing, planning, integrating,implementation, testing, documenting, and training. Designssecurity networks that include firewall hardware, VPNs, intrusiondetection appliances, and/or management systems. Provides strategicplanning of all data and voice networks. Provides recommendationsfor new networking equipment, services and technologies. Providesadvanced level of troubleshooting expertise to other networkengineers and NOC personnel. Coordinates with GSOC, GTC, OPC, EMCs,and other stakeholders to ensure that network designs meetrequirements and are functioning as intended. Regularly identifiesopportunities for improvement and ensures that stakeholders aresatisfied.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree inElectrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, ComputerScience, and/or Information Technology.
Experience:
Engineer I:
0-2years’ experience in a network engineer role within a largeregionalized WAN environment. Basic overall routing & switchingskills.
Engineer II:
3-4 years’ experience in a network engineerrole within a large regionalized WAN environment. Knowledge in oneor more of the following: BGP and iBGP. OSPF and eVPN a plus.
Knowledge in design and implementation of routing strategies forregionalized WAN access. Knowledge of Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos, andArista EOS.
Senior Engineer:
6 years’ experience in a seniornetwork engineer/architect role within a large regionalized WANenvironment. Expert knowledge in one or more of the following: BGPand iBGP. OSPF and eVPN a plus. Experience in design andimplementation of routing strategies for regionalized WAN access.
Experience or good understanding of design and implementation ofdirect connections into Cloud providers AWS, Azure, SAP, etc.
Strong overall routing & switching skills. Experience with CiscoIOS, Juniper Junos, and Arista EOS.
Principal Engineer:
10 years’experience in a senior network engineer/architect role within alarge regionalized WAN environment. Expert knowledge in one or moreof the following: BGP and iBGP. OSPF and eVPN a plus. Experience indesign and implementation of routing strategies for regionalizedWAN access. Experience with design and implementation of directconnections into Cloud providers AWS, Azure, SAP, etc. Expertrouting & switching skills. Experience with Cisco IOS, JuniperJunos, and Arista EOS.
Equivalent Experience:
Engineer I:
Associates degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering,Telecommunications, Computer Science, and/or Information Technologywith 3 years of networking experience.
Engineer II:
Associatesdegree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications,Computer Science, and/or Information Technology with 6 years ofnetworking experience.
Senior Engineer:
Associates degree inElectrical / Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, ComputerScience, and/or Information Technology with 12 years of networkingexperience with 5 of the years at an engineering technician orsupervisor level.
Principal Engineer:
Associates degree inElectrical / Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, ComputerScience, and/or Information Technology with 15 years of networkingexperience with 5 of the years at an architect level. Licenses,Certifications and/or
Registrations:
Driver’s license. Must obtainand maintain Bulk Electric System Cyber Authorized Status asdefined in GSOC’s CIP Cyber Security Policy 301 and NERCReliability Standard CIP 004 – Personnel Risk Assessment.
Specialized Skills :
Computer, MS Office, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, effective organizational and verbal/writtencommunication abilities, active listening, critical thinking, andactive learning. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basicrouting skills. Candidate must be self-motivated, team oriented andmust possess strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer I:
Knowledge of OSPF and BGP.Experience with Cisco IOS, Juniper Junos, and Arista EOS.Experience in design and implementation of routing strategies forregionalized WAN access. Good written and verbal communicationskills. Active network routing certifications are a plus.
EngineerII:
Knowledge of SDWAN solutions. Experience with B2B VPN andExternal Access a plus. Knowledge of datacenter networking fabrictopologies and common architectures deployed, both Layer 2 andLayer 3 based. Knowledge of micro-segmented environments.
Programming with Python. Good written and verbal communicationskills. Active network routing certifications are a plus.
SeniorEngineer:
Advanced knowledge in SDWAN solutions. Experience withB2B VPN and External Access a plus. Understand datacenternetworking fabric topologies and common architectures deployed,both Layer 2 and Layer 3 based. Familiarity or experience witharchitecting and operating micro-segmented environments.
Familiarity or experience with network automation or programmingwith Python. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership of large complex projects. Active networkrouting certifications are a plus.
Principal Engineer:
