Role:
As aSenior Automation Engineer, you will work in a hybrid position andbe part of the Automation engineering group located at theMassachusetts Biological Operations (MBO) site of TakedaPharmaceutical Co. Ltd. The scope of responsibility will includeoperational, and project support of PLC, DCS, ManufacturingExecution systems, and ancillary data systems used to control andcollect data for various building and manufacturing unitoperations. The main manufacturing systems include incubators,bioreactors, chromatography skids, filtration skids, media andbuffer preparation vessels, intermediate totes, CIP and causticdistribution skids, COP washers, and autoclaves. You will report toAutomation Lead.
How you will contribute:
You will be a primarycontact and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Control SystemPlatforms, supporting Mass Bio groups such as Manufacturing,Engineering, and Facilities. Provide support to the front-lineautomation operations team for manufacturing processes. Beresponsible for system performance, continuous improvement, andlarge-scale improvement efforts. Develop expertise in assignedautomation platforms and be a consultant to engineering and siteleadership on design, policies, and best practices. Supporttroubleshooting and issue resolution for operations, includingparticipating in an on-call rotation for immediate assistance.
Execute work orders in Maximo following Good Engineering Practices(GEP), GAMP, and cGMP. Investigate and document compliance andsafety deviations, establishing root causes using advanced toolsand designing corrective actions (CAPAs). Conduct complex dataanalysis to track equipment performance using tools like PIHistorian, Minitab, Spotfire, and PowerBI. Lead automation systemprojects, including design, testing, and lifecycle management,ensuring alignment with strategic site priorities. Collaborate withexternal vendors for new technology integration and systemmaintenance, leveraging industry standards (e.g., ISA
S-88, S-95
)and tools like COMOS and Veeva. What you bring to
Takeda:
B.S./M.S.in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences,or equivalent degree 5 to 8 years of relevant industrial controlsexperience and demonstrated accomplishments Proficiency withMicrosoft products; as the need arises
- TrackWise experience wouldbe ideal.
Experience in a cGMP Engineering role withinpharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other FDA regulated industry.
Proficient understanding of instrumentation, and its configuration,Industrial Control networking such as Ethernet IP, Profibus, orAS-I networks. Programmable Logic Controller or DistributiveControl System programming, and Data Historian and ReportConfiguration. Expertise in at least oneand Knowledge in multiplerelevant automation system such as Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCplatforms, Delta V DCS platform, Schneider Electric or JohnsonControls BMS platforms,iFix, Factory Talk, or ignition SCADAsystems, data systems (PI, IP21, Crystal Reports, rtReports, etc.)and data integration solutions (OPC, Kepware, Matrikon, LabX,WebAPI, etc.) Demonstrated experience of Windows OS, Networking &System Security Fundamentals In-depth knowledge of core principlesin various engineering disciplines (e.g. process engineering, plantengineering, automation engineering), facility design and GoodEngineering Practice (GEP) Demonstrated experience with theapplication of project management methodology and deliveringsolutions that meet business objectives for complex programs.

In this role, you may: Work in a controlledenvironment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothingover the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may includeadditional hearing protection for loud areas. Need to remove allmake-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificialfingernails while in the manufacturing environment. Work in a cold,wet environment. Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or beasked to work supplemental hours, as necessary. Work aroundchemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that mayrequire respiratory protection. This role is consider Hybrid at theMassachusetts Biological Operations (MBO) site of TakedaPharmaceutical Co. Ltd., A successful candidate will be required tobe on-site a minimum of 3 days per week and as business needsrequire and available for on-call support 24/7. Required to carry acellular device and be available to support requirements at allsites. Base Salary Range:
$86,500.00
- $135,960.

The actual base salary offered will bein accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for thejob location. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-termand/or long-termincentives.
