Job Description
Description We are seeking a Sr Wireless Network Engineer to join a mission-critical healthcare environment at our client. This role is essential to maintaining and expanding a robust, enterprise-grade wireless infrastructure that supports patient care, clinical operations, and real-time location services (RTLS). The ideal candidate will be a Cisco-certified wireless expert with experience in healthcare environments and a strong understanding of wireless design, deployment, and troubleshooting. The main responsibility of this person will be focusing on wireless infrastructure from a design, troubleshooting, and upkeep standpoint. This person will serve as the primary wireless engineer for the hospital system, supporting over 5,000 Cisco access points across multiple campuses.
Responsibilities include:
Design, deploy, and maintain wireless networks using Cisco 8540 and 9800 series wireless LAN controllers and 3800/2800/9k series APs, Conduct wireless site surveys, heat mapping, and RF analysis to ensure optimal coverage and performance, Collaborate with construction and facilities teams to review blueprints, provide wireless design input, and deliver wiring diagrams and preliminary budgets, Troubleshoot complex wireless issues, including authentication problems (ISE/certificates), device connectivity, and interference. This person will also support specialized wireless configurations for RTLS, Vocera, and voice-grade SSIDs, Maintain and update documentation using Cisco Prime, Cisco DNA, and RTLS mapping tools, Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours or weekend wireless issues as needed, and will work closely with network engineers, clinical staff, and end users to ensure seamless wireless experiences across all departments.
Top Skills:
(must haves) Cisco Certified (CCNP Wireless or equivalent strongly preferred). Deep knowledge of Cisco wireless infrastructure, including: 8540 and 9800 series WLCs, 2800/3800/9k series APs, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Experience in healthcare environments, with an understanding of the unique challenges of securing and supporting medical devices. Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz spectrum, and wireless security protocols. Experience with RTLS, Vocera, and voice-over-Wi-Fi deployments. Ability to interpret construction plans and collaborate with facilities teams on new builds and renovations. Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with clinical staff, nurses, and doctors. Candidates must be local to Jackson, MS and be available for on-site support as needed. Flexibly hybrid work is available, but candidates must be able to respond to urgent onsite issues.
