Automation Engineer Job Description The Automation Engineer position involves performing duties within the Engineering Department, focusing on design, research, prototyping, and engineering documentation. Responsibilities + Program using various platforms, primarily Logix 5000 and TIA Portal. + Migrate obsolete Allen Bradley PLC’s to ControlLogix + Create and modify PLC code to achieve desired results. + Design and modify schematics and panel layouts using AutoCAD. + Work hands-on with industrial equipment. + Write programs from scratch for equipment. Essential Skills + Proficient in Allen-Bradley, HMI, PLC, and ladder logic programming. + Experience migrating/installing ControlLogix control systems + 3+ years of experience with a BS degree or 5+ years of equivalent experience. + Ability to program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs. + Experience with wire and cable equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications + BS degree in a related field is preferred. + Experience in robotics and automation for material handling is a plus. Work Environment The work environment is within an engineering firm specializing in wire and cable lines. The engineering staff handles all project phases from design to commissioning. This is a project that will require travel to the customer site for control system installation and commissioning, requiring roughly 75% travel for a short period.
