23 The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) seeks a highly qualified Network Security Specialist I to support its mission to protect and preserve the rights and liberties of all the people by providing a fair, independent and accessible forum for the just, timely and economical resolution of their legal affairs. Your primary duties include, but are not limited to the following: Participate in the daily operations and maintenance of the NCAOC Security Operations Center (SOC) and maintaining the NCAOC Security Posture. Participate in triaging, updating and seeing to closure of

Help Desk tickets. Under the guidance of a senior engineer, participate in the engineering and maintenance of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Vulnerability Management (VM), Network Access Control, IPsec, VPN, Security Incident and Event Manager (SIEM), and all other network and cloud security tools. The Network Security Specialist I position reports to the Network Services Operations & Administration Manager. Work hours are 8:00 AM

  • 5:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday.

In this position, you will have an opportunity to work remotely (up to 75% remote). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities /

Competencies Knowledge of:

 conceptual understanding of enterprise WAN and LAN networking technologies and architectures; familiarization with enterprise network security technologies and best practices; security practices to evaluate security risks, mitigation strategies and strengths of networks against modern threat vectors; network topologies to design, implement, and support wireless data infrastructure and data center backhaul; understanding product roadmaps and industry trends; network and computer system best practices and related technologies; NCAOC security policy and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIN) policies.

Skills in:

 understanding security policies and rule configuration and the deployment of firewalls; learning and utilizing implementation considerations and operational support and troubleshooting of wireless network infrastructure and backhaul methodologies; developing troubleshooting acumen of internet and intranet related problems and support of performance and application-based routing for business critical systems on data, voice and video networks directly supporting eCourts initiatives and deployment; monitoring and responding to outages and network performance and network security issues via LiveNX and Secureworks; Conceptual familiarization of networking protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, IPsec, IEEE standards, IEEE 802.11 and 802.1x, and OSPF; routers, switches, servers, internet protocol, DSL, cable, satellite, and TCP/IP architecture.

Ability to:

 thrive in a highly technical environment to progress professionally to more advanced engineering concepts; organize, synthesize and utilize large amounts of new and complex technical data for the advancement of professional skills in network engineering; participate in professional development opportunities to successfully complete CCNA exam; participate in execution of network related OS patches and upgrades to mitigate vulnerabilities; prioritize, plan, manage and implement multiple complex projects under the guidance of senior engineers; read and interpret highly technical documents in support of deployed technologies; consider the implications of new technology implementations and balance the application and system needs of users; communicate effectively with users to determine and resolve problems; learn the purposes of security networks that minimize the chance of intrusion into judicial branch networks; communicate technical information to lay persons; interpret and follow established employment and policies. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in network security or another related information technology field; or an Associate’s degree and two (2) years of related work experience in network security design, implementation, and/or with a Security Operations Center (SOC); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
