Brooklyn, New York Network Engineer The Network Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of the University’s network systems. Reporting to the Sr. Director, IT Operations, you’ll assist in designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining a stable, high-performing network infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to advanced network operations, troubleshoot and resolve critical issues, and optimize both new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Support:
Help design and implement robust network infrastructure solutions.
Troubleshooting & Resolution:
Swiftly diagnose and resolve network issues by collaborating with the network team and other departments.
Performance & Reliability:
Proactively monitor network performance, ensuring consistent system availability and reliability.
Maintenance & Upgrades:
Perform essential network maintenance and execute upgrades during scheduled downtime.
Device Configuration:
Configure and install various network devices, including routers, switches, and more.
Security Management:
Maintain, configure, and monitor network security measures, particularly firewalls.
User Support:
Provide expert technical support for network connectivity and related user issues.
Project Participation:
Actively participate in IT projects focused on enhancing network infrastructure.
Documentation:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for network topology, operational procedures, and incident reports.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is required.
Experience:
1-3 years of hands-on experience in a network support role or a similar technical environment.
Certifications (Plus): Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CompTIA Network+ are a significant advantage.
Device Configuration:
Proven experience configuring and maintaining network devices, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
Diagnostic Tools:
Familiarity with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools.
Network Security:
Demonstrated experience managing network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, and data encryption.
Networking Protocols:
Solid understanding of various networking protocols.
Team Player:
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Problem-Solving:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
This position may occasionally require bending, reaching, ascending and descending stairs, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Travel:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to all campuses when requested.
