05/22/2025 Rockland BOCES is seeking a candidate to work in their Technology Department. This is technical work of a moderately complex nature which involves responsibility for systems administration, network management and hands-on installation and maintenance of computer equipment. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level administrator, and work direction (e.g., lead work) may be provided to lower-level staff members. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assesses user’s needs, identified appropriate software and hardware solutions and determines if existing technology can meet operational requirements; Installs and configures hardware and software for networked systems, personal computers, laptops and local area networks; Utilizes utility programs to analyze, manage and maintain system resources (e.g., carry out system security, protect data and programs from equipment failure and user error, troubleshoot, etc.); Installs equipment such as desktop personal computers, laptops, office information systems hardware, mobile units and related peripherals such as computer monitors, printers, scanners, etc.; Runs network cabling; Troubleshoots and repairs equipment (e.g. identifying loose connections and replacing defective parts); Diagnoses and rectifies telecommunication problems (e.g., phone malfunctions); Identifies and resolves operator-related issues, such as login errors or disconnected peripherals; Performs scheduled system backups and responds to error messages by replacing drives, reorganizing data, etc.; Evaluates and recommends operating system and application program upgrades; Provides training to staff on the use of computer applications, equipment operation; etc.; Converts data from one application to another; Monitors error logs and telecommunication logs to verify system performance; Performs preventative maintenance such as oiling and cleaning printers, cleaning computer hardware, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and six (6) years of work experience maintaining computer systems, hardware support and either network administration or network support of software; or An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or comparable degree and four (4) years of work experience maintaining computer systems, hardware support and either network administration or network support of software; or A Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or comparable degree and two (2) years of work experience maintaining computer systems, hardware support and either network administration or network support of software.
