INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST II
University of Alabama at Birmingham This position is responsible for the development, design, installation and maintenance of a department’s networked computers and assume sole responsibility as the systems or network administrator. Key Roles & Responsibilities Responsible for the development, design, installation, and maintenance of a department’s networked computers. Manages the technical aspects of the system and network, ensuring proper functionality and security. Provides user support by troubleshooting PC and network issues and acts as a liaison with University Backbone Network personnel. May supervise technical support staff, including Computer Technicians and Information System Specialists, performing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting duties. Oversees network management, including data security, network operations, computer connectivity, and issue resolution. Assists with hardware and software maintenance, responding to problems both onsite and remotely in a timely manner. Evaluates network needs and collaborates with leadership to procure and implement new solutions. Conducts training for new staff on unit systems and serves as a liaison for university-wide network operations and management. Consults with system users and makes software and/or hardware recommendations. Installs and/or develops customized software as required. Provides training and documentation of software. Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs as necessary any department hardware and peripherals. May maintain department file server, i.e. back-ups, additions and deletion of users, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics Desktop support, computer installation hardware troubleshooting, network support. Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Technology or a related field.
Hourly Range:
$22.90-$37.25 Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement
