Job Description
The Network Admin I is responsible for assisting with the installation and maintenance of the University’s information and communication technologies, infrastructures, and services. Functions include, but are not limited to installing, maintaining, and monitoring the operational status of network and telecommunication equipment. This also includes troubleshooting and resolving data, voice, and video network-related issues reported by users. The employee must possess the ability to work independently without supervision and requires demonstrated proficiency in the following areas: communication, professionalism, time management, organization, critical thinking, and reliability.
Responsibilities Include:
Collaborate closely with the Sr. Director of Technical Services to prioritize network-related project tasks, system maintenance and end-user support for network and phone communication equipment Manage and maintain the organization’s wired and wireless communication hardware and infrastructure, including installation and configuration of data, voice, and video networks Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, including engaging vendor technical support services as necessary Assist with light cabling infrastructure installs and repairs on an as-needed basis, including: 1.) Installation, labeling, and maintenance of network cabling and equipment; 2.) Patching, connectivity verification, and testing; 3) Underground cable locating and marking Install, test, and maintain all UPS devices within the Data Center and network communication rooms Maintain and update the network diagrams and physical maps of all campus structured cabling, including all fiber optic and wired infrastructure Install and provision security cameras and wireless access devices as directed Follow the change management processes and procedures to ensure network availability for end-users Maintain a strong understanding of current and emerging network technologies, trends, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development Collaborate with IT leadership and staff to enhance IT services for the FIT community Contribute to FIT’s team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned by the IT Leadership team
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other appropriately related field, or equivalent work experience Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work together with technical and non-technical staff
