Primary Purpose:

The Library Systems Specialist reports directly to the Systems Librarian and is a member of the Digital Strategies & Technology Team. This position supports the management and accessibility of web content, library systems, and emerging technologies within the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. The successful candidate will be highly computer literate and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and adaptability in a technology-rich environment. Familiarity with content management systems (such as Cascade CMS), digital signage platforms, VR equipment, or recording studio technologies is desirable. The Library Systems Specialist will assist in a support role with Virtual Learning Center lab classes and library events involving technology.

Job Function:

Library User Support Assists with enhancing the functionality, accessibility, and effectiveness of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library’s website, ensuring it meets ADA accessibility requirements. Assists with maintaining and providing enhancements to library systems such as the integrated library system and suite of Springshare products Assists with planning for and implementing new library systems and technologies Assists with supporting systems used to digitize resources Assists with troubleshooting technology-related issues Assists with collecting data from library systems; supports library staff requests for reports Provides training and support in the use of library-specific software and assists with technological needs for in-person events. Works with library staff to meet all University publication and marketing requirements. Participates in library special projects requiring technical expertise and personnel Contributes to the overall success of Thomas G. Carpenter Library by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

Maintains awareness of library projects and activities in all departments Participates in planning and policy-making bodies of the library and university as appropriate Serves on other library or university committees or project teams as appropriate Participates in training and professional development activities as appropriate.

Departmental Requirements:

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively with minimal supervision Project management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED
Qualifications:

Knowledge or experience with an integrated library system, such as ExLibris ALMA, and web technologies like HTML and CSS for website design and maintenance, along with familiarity with web-based content management systems such as Cascade CMS and Springshare LibGuides , is desirable. Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva , Photoshop , or other visual content creation software is beneficial. Adaptable to new technologies Able to work effectively with others Comfortable lifting and moving office equipment (computers, scanners, printers).

Required Qualifications:

This position requires either (a) Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization; (b) or a high school diploma and four years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
