The GMIS Linux Engineer ensures the optimal performance, security, and reliability of Linux/AIX-based servers. They automate routine tasks and system processes using scripting languages like Bash, Python, and Perl. Their role includes diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, optimizing system performance, and managing security through updates and patch management. They maintain comprehensive documentation and collaborate with various teams to ensure seamless system integration. Additionally, they participate in disaster recovery planning and manage storage solutions, including UNIX OS layers, LVM, SAN-based LUNs, and hypervisor-based datastores.

Job Functions:
System Administration:

Maintain and administer Linux/AIX-based servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

Scripting and Automation:

Develop and maintain scripts for automating routine tasks, system monitoring, patching, and deployment processes using languages such as Bash, Python, and Perl.

Troubleshooting and Support:

Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, providing technical support to internal teams and clients. Act as a mentor to other junior level staff members and help them grow and learn.

Performance Tuning:

Optimize system performance by monitoring and analyzing system metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing improvements.

Security Management:

Implement and maintain security best practices, including regular updates, patch management, and vulnerability assessments.

Collaboration:

Work closely with development, network, database, storage, and security teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems.

Disaster Recovery:

Maintain current UNIX team-based documentation, participate in yearly DR testing, document gaps, and implement remediation for observed gaps.

Storage Management:

Understand and administer UNIX OS layer, LVM, SAN-based LUNs, Hypervisor-based Datastores, and Software-Defined Storage.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certification).

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration and scripting. Experience with container orchestration tools (Kubernetes). Knowledge of database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL). Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Experience with version control systems (Git).
Experience with automated patching utilizing Red Hat Satellite server.
Experience with

HMC/AIX/LPAR

virtualization management and AIX OS updates.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in managing Linux systems (Red Hat, AIX, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.).
Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, and Perl.
Knowledge of networking protocols and services (DNS, DHCP, NFS, FTP, SSH, etc.).
Understanding of virtualization technologies (Nutanix, VMware, KVM, Docker).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (predominantly Azure,).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and efficiency.
Mentor Junior UNIX teammates
Knowledge of database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL).

Physical Demands:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

Travel:

Less than 25% travel with shipboard travel likely

Work Conditions:

Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.
