Summary The Systems Administrator Associate assists with the installation, administration and oversight of Macon-Bibb County’s multi-server environments including but not limited to network security and a multi-server Exchange environment. The System Administrator Associate will assist the System Administrator Senior and System Administrator Junior in their roles and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Ensures system security, data integrity, system optimization, and back-ups of systems and data.
Evaluates end-user and infrastructure needs and productivity enhancements.
Research methods of addressing infrastructure needs to increase end-user productivity, system optimization and network stability.
Troubleshoot issues and outages when they arise.
Perform open records request from legal by using existing management tools to retrieve emails and data.
Ensures email security and ensures that emails are incoming/outgoing within the network.
Assists with managing accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
Assists with monitoring data-center health and responding to hardware issues when they arise. Monitors server resource usage, such as disk space and memory usage, by optimizing and preventing resource exhaustion.
Assists with the deployment and configurations of the servers in a virtualized and traditional environment.
Maintains security measures such as firewalls and anti-virus software.
Modifies software and operating systems to establish and maintain system stability and optimization.
Researches and identifies possible deficiencies and vulnerabilities within the computing system infrastructure and defines corrective actions required to prevent or resolve these areas.
Ensure that new applications are integrated and deployed across the business efficiently and seamlessly.
Ensures that all system and network modifications are completely documented and that any support request handled outside of the IT Helpdesk are logged accurately with the Helpdesk Manager. Education, Training and Experience The Systems Administrator should possess, at minimum, an associate’s degree in computer science, associate’s degree in information technology, or equivalent field, and at least 4 years of progressive system and network experience; an Associate’s degree in similar course work and 6 years or progressive system and network experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Systems Administrator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts: Knowledge of system and network fundamentals and advanced complex concepts.
Knowledge of system and network auditing and logging.
Knowledge of troubleshooting, testing, and monitoring concepts.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report preparation.
Knowledge of system and network cascading effects.
Knowledge of office automation and business software.
Skill building professional relationships.
Skill in effective time management.
Skill concerning professionalism and courteousness.
Skill in enterprise security, ensure data integrity, and data back-ups. Ability to focus on achieving goals, including those involving external departments, agencies, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to multi-task in a high activity/energy professional environment that includes multiple and concurrent projects, deadlines, occasional interruptions, and walk-in appointments.
Ability to resolve problems in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize work; set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
