The IT Director leads a team that is responsible for the evaluation, administration, maintenance, and expansion of the City’s mission-critical network and server infrastructure, including, but not limited to: LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, Unified Communications, Network Security, Virtual Infrastructure and Backup and Disaster Recovery systems. Major Duties Manages, directs, and leads the activities of the Information Technology Department. Develop staff via training and mentoring to foster an environment of cohesive teamwork. Can administer, design, analyze, develop, and configure various network and computer information systems and services to an advanced level. Performs highly complex duties with lead responsibilities involved in planning system installations, migration, updates projects, and coordinates the efforts of various stakeholders to ensure successful implementation. Routinely administers/mitigates network/server infrastructure problems independently or delegated. Implements and manages SIEM and SOAR orchestration and data ingestion. Provide subject matter expert-level network/server technical expertise to the Information Technology team. Develops policies and procedures that affect the operation and use of the City of Hickory’s network/server infrastructure. Manages switching, routing, firewall, web filter, and intrusion detection/prevention systems along with other Information Technology team members. Provides oversight of equipment inventory via ITAM solution and provides analytics as needed. Manages the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of network infrastructure components (i.e., servers, SANs, firewalls, switches, security, and backup appliances, etc.) After-hours and on-call support are required on an as-needed basis. (Entra/Cisco/Other) Manages FCC Licenses Handles the majority of critical network and server issues and delegates as needed. Knowledge and Qualifications Advanced level knowledge of server and workstation hardware and troubleshooting abilities Advanced level knowledge of switch, firewall, SIEM, and SOAR Advanced level knowledge of system and network design Advanced level knowledge of TCP/IP protocol, and wireless communication protocols Mid-level knowledge of basic programming and scripting languages (i.e., PowerShell, Unix shell programming, and VB) Proven skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of complex computer hardware and software Proven skill in time prioritization and management Proven skill in troubleshooting and problem-solving Experienced skill in the operation of computer equipment Experienced in oral and written communication At least 10 years of proven network/server administration required, at least 3 of which include IT personnel management. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
