Description of Work Unleash your potential and make an impact! The Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Solutions is currently accepting applications for the System Administrator I- Raleigh. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, as well as retirement.

  • Salary range is $72,993-$100,366
  • We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team.

This role focuses on optimizing server performance, ensuring high availability, managing secure storage and print solutions, and maintaining system compliance and disaster recovery readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

Utilization of analyzers and tools to observe usage trends in order to proactively enhance server usage and performance.
Implement, Manage, and Maintain a network-based Storage Area Network (SAN) to provide mirroring for critical SQL data as well as monitor and enhance application performance and availability, and provide real-time information on storage related concerns.
Design, setup and maintain advanced clustering services for grouped Windows Servers and provide load balancing and performance monitoring for all agency Web Servers and Database Servers in high availability.
Maintain, manage and deploy print devices and solutions through centrally Managed Print Services (MPS) and monitor these connections for performance and availability.
Testing new Operating System versions/revisions and evaluating impact to existing agency systems.
Handle secure file transfer internally and externally with other networks utilizing best security practices for protocols and ports related to FTP, FTPS, SFTP and SSH transmissions.
Design and maintain a Disaster Recovery environment that meets retention needs while relying on security best practices and implement this environment in coordination with the Divisions Business Continuity Plan.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of Windows-based Operating Systems and the ability to deploy them across network layers.
Familiarity with building and deploying both physical and virtual servers within Active Directory utilizing either Microsoft Azure or VMware.
Knowledge of protocols used in client-server networking such as DNS, HTTP, DHCP, FTP, SMTP, and NTP. Ability to assist in developing standards and/or procedures to provide for operational efficiency.
Basic understanding of how to optimize system performance and resource usage to ensure efficient operation of computing equipment
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
