CareerSite Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Network Technician to join our team. This role will primarily be based in our Birmingham office, responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of our internal network infrastructure. Additionally, the Network Technician will provide on-site network support and solutions to our valued customers within the local Birmingham area. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of networking principles, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities:
In-house Network Management:
Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and servers. Monitor network performance and ensure network availability and security. Perform regular network upgrades, patches, and backups. Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues, both hardware and software. Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and inventory. Implement and enforce network security policies and best practices.
On-site Customer Support:
Travel to customer locations within the Birmingham, AL area to provide on-site network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting services. Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, including LAN/WAN problems, Wi-Fi connectivity, and VPN access. Assist customers with network setup, migrations, and upgrades. Provide technical guidance and support to customers on network-related inquiries. Document customer interactions, solutions, and configurations. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring their satisfaction.
General Duties:
Collaborate with other IT team members to ensure seamless service delivery. Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as needed. Stay up-to-date with the latest networking technologies and industry trends. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Proven experience 3+ years as a Network Technician or similar role. Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP). Experience with network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Ubiquiti, Meraki, Juniper, Sonic Wall, etc. Proficiency in troubleshooting network connectivity issues, both wired and wireless. Familiarity with network security concepts and best practices. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required for travel to customer sites. Ability to lift and move network equipment (up to 50 lbs). Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have): Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent. Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). Knowledge of cloud networking concepts (e.g., AWS, Azure). Experience with network monitoring tools.
