PC Support Specialist:
Provides technical support to increase computer user and systemefficiency. Investigates and resolves computer user supportrequirements by answering questions about hardware and software.
Installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to personal computerhardware and software systems, and provides technical assistanceand training to system users. Responds to telephone, voice mail, e-mail, and in-person requestsfor assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware,software, networking, or other computer related technologies byanswering, evaluating, and prioritizing requests. Determines source of malfunction by interviewing users on thetelephone or in person to collect information about the problem andleads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source oferror. Determines probable cause of problem (e.g. hardware,software, network, modem, printer, cables, and telephone) byreviewing procedures and actions taken by the user. Instructs userto perform diagnostic procedures. Analyzes functions, applications, and operations and evaluatesexisting and proposed solutions. Recommends applicable solutions toresolve problems, minimize “down-time”, and/or improveefficiency. Establishes PC performance by installing hardware, software, andperipheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, anddisk drives. Installs hardware and software upgrades. Monitors network performance by performing preliminary problemisolation and determination and working with appropriate technicalareas/staff to resolve problems. Teaches users on effective use of systems by answering questions,interpreting operating instructions, creating user documentation,developing training materials, and providing references. Mayprepare and give technical presentations on selected topics. Evaluates software and hardware by testing ease of use andapplicability. Helps improve programs by notifying programmers orappropriate technical areas/staff of problems and recommendingchanges. Improves systems, processes, and quality of services byimplementing continuous improvement techniques to analyze andidentify areas for improvement. Provides updates, status, and completion information to users andteam leaders by voice mail, e-mail, or in – personcommunication. Recognizes and performs preliminary evaluation ofergonomics-related issues, including workstation setup andfurniture configurations, for any team members they contact. Logs and tracks calls. Maintains history records, related problemdocumentation and prepares standard reports. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshopsand reviewing technical or trade publications. Supports the team by accomplishing related results as needed. Workassignments may include cross-functional or project teamresponsibilities.
Education and Experience:
Trade school course completion, AA, or equivalent external trainingin computer repair (i.e. Microsoft Systems Certification) which hasprovided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field anddemonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the jobtypically acquired through four or more years of directly relatedexperience A+ Certification in personal computer maintenance and repair withcontinuing practical knowledge in the repair field May have a Bachelor’s degree in related field (Computer Science,Mathematics, Engineering, Quantitative Methods, etc.) and no priordirectly related experience. 804 Technology is an equal opportunity employer.
