JOB SUMMARY

The I.T. Technician position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading computers, mobile in-car tablets, radio communications and related hardware for all departments in the Town. The technician will also troubleshoot and resolve various technical issues related to computer systems, networks, and software.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintain accurate service records detailing the response & resolution of service requests submitted through the help desk system. Act as liaison with vendors in relation to integration and operation of Town systems. Manage and implement changes mandated by local, state and federal guidelines that are related to Public Safety communication systems. Manage support in all aspects related to Public Safety communication and interoperability for both Fire and Police departments. Assist ISO, FEMA, and State Law Enforcement Division to ensure operation compliance requirements within their area of expertise or other duties needed in compliance with NIMS guidelines. Performs a variety of administrative, skilled and complex technical work in the procurement, installation, maintenance and training on personal computers, communications and networking systems within the Town of Summerville. Attend meetings, conferences, training seminars to keep abreast of current developments and new professional techniques in the field and regular reading of professional literature. Configure user accounts, settings, and permissions on computers and servers. Ensure all devices are secure and meet the Town standards. Maintain inventory for all devices including spare parts, tools, and software licenses.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED, and at least 2 years of equivalent work experience in an IT related field. Certifications in CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) are preferred but not required. The candidate must be familiar with a with a Windows Domain environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Administration Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Computer Technician. Knowledge of Public Safety radio communications, VOIP telephony & Microsoft 365/Active Directory account administration is preferred. Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge in computer networks, tools, diagnostic procedures, software applications, computer programming, computer operating systems, hardware maintenance, and mathematics. Knowledge of computer and software terminology used within the Town. Knowledge of the ever-changing technological field and will stay abreast of changes that would improve the performance of all Town systems. Knowledge of how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals, and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the industry. Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Ability to handle required complex calculations. Ability to read and interpret complex materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Ability to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise, clear and effective manner. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to operate different types of equipment and machinery including office equipment, communications equipment, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting much of the time, with extended periods at a keyboard. Must be able to lift or carry up to twenty pounds.
