Design 10 years Full Job Description Lead Architect (Secure Landing Zone) On-Site | Thuwal, Saudi Arabia | Full Project Term (Phase 1 & 2) About the Role Black Rock Engineering & Technology (BR) is standing up a VMware-based Secure Landing Zone for King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST). We need a battle-tested Lead Architect who can take a green-field environment from interim Phase 1 through full production in Phase 2—while keeping every control in

Key Responsibilities Architect & Validate:
Design the end-to-end Landing Zone (LZ) and prove compliance against
NIST 800-53
v5—no wishful thinking.
Document Like You Mean It:
Run technical workshops; produce rock-solid High-Level (HLD) and Low-Level (LLD) design documents that auditors love. Integrate the
Stack:
Oversee deployment and tuning of VMware vSphere, NSX-T, Aria Suite, and VDI components—plus whatever else shows up in the BoM. Plan the
Cut-Over:
Craft and execute migration playbooks from the interim (Phase 1) environment to the production (Phase 2) state. Be the
Glue:
Act as technical point of contact for KAUST stakeholders, the CyberArk team, and multiple integration partners. If something breaks, your phone rings first. Required Qualifications VMware
VCAP-DCV
Design (current). 10+ years architecting mission-critical VMware environments (vSphere, NSX-T, v
SAN, VDI
). Deep familiarity with
NIST 800-53
v5, FedRAMP, or comparable control frameworks. Proven track record producing HLD/LLD artifacts and presenting to C-level and auditors alike. Hands-on experience with zero-trust/micro-segmentation, secure automation, and disaster-recovery design. Willingness and ability to live and work onsite in Thuwal for the full project term. Preferred Extras CISSP (or equivalent security cert)—because letters still matter. Prior work with Aria Suite (vRealize) automation and hybrid-cloud integrations. Experience interfacing with Privileged Access Management tools (e.g., CyberArk). Familiarity with KSA hosting/security regulations or large university environments. Clearance & Compliance Candidate must be eligible for KAUST’s local onboarding checks and any site-specific security clearances. U.S. clearance not required.

Entire project lifecycle (anticipated 4-6 months).
Schedule:
Standard onsite workweek; evening/weekend work as project demands dictate
