We are presently recruiting for a Senior Application Engineer who will be part of the Distech Controls Enterprise Solutions team (DCES). You will be responsible for developing and delivering control system solutions for our strategic customers. As the senior member of the project team, you will be leading the design and software engineering activities to support the successful implementation of large and/or multisite building automation projects. Reporting to the Project Team Manager, the Senior Application Engineer will work with Project Managers and Application Engineers to deliver a high level of consistency in engineering and project delivery of our Strategic Account Customer projects.
What will you do?
Translate Building Automation and Control System requirements and specifications into solutions that meet customer needs and create a competitive advantage through innovative design and implementation.
Collaborate closely with project managers and other application engineers to align engineering activities with project schedules, budgets, and customer or third-party vendor interfacing requirements.
Produce engineering deliverables including submittal packages, drawings, system architecture, sub-system interfacing points, database generation, graphics development, system software configuration, and programming.
Provide oversight and support to Application Engineers, Field Engineers, and Startup Technicians in troubleshooting installation issues during the startup and commissioning of building controls and systems.
Develop and refine engineering processes, standards, and associated documentation to improve efficiency and productivity at scale while maintaining or enhancing quality.
Provide cross-functional support to other areas of the DCES business, including Sales, Service, and Project Teams.
Engage with customers to enhance their experience with the Distech Controls Enterprise Solutions team.
Which candidate profile are we looking for?
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or more than 8 years of directly related experience as an Applications Engineer or Senior Automation Technician.
At least 10 years of experience in the Building Automation System industry.
Expertise in using Building Automation System tools (Graphics and Programming tools), particularly Niagara Framework, Lonworks, and BACnet.
Ability to work effectively from a home office or remotely.
Self-starter, able to think outside the box, prioritize tasks, and work effectively with minimal daily guidance or supervision.
Knowledge of building, electrical, and mechanical codes, standards, and regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Projects, Smartsheet, and other scheduling and planning tools.
Current passport with the ability to travel up to 45%.
Required experience and expertise including but not limited to:
Demonstrated experience integrating multiple software packages (e.g., Excel, AutoCAD, and Visio) to increase productivity.
Ability to design and construct Building Management System (BMS) drawing packages.
Extensive knowledge of computer networking, system configuration, and troubleshooting networking issues.
Skilled in configuring and debugging computer and software-related problems.
Niagara AX and N4 Tridium Certification.
Experience with Niagara 4 and interfacing Niagara Servers connected to multiple JACE installation topologies.
In-depth understanding of HVAC applications, building services operations, and automated controls theory, and how they interact with overall building performance.
Proficient in working with electronic equipment such as volt meters, amp meters, and oscilloscopes.
Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical and electronic circuitry, including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build lasting customer relationships through effective communication.
Empathetic understanding of others’ issues and perceptions, with the ability to creatively and successfully resolve them in both individual and team environments.
Preferred experience and expertise including but not limited to:
Distech Controls GFX application programming and debugging.
Experience with Distech Controllers and related hardware devices.
Proficient in working with Distech Eclypse Designer, a web-based graphic design and visualization interface for delivering interactive graphical user interfaces, enhancing user experience for building owners and facility managers.
Strong IT background with vast knowledge of IT infrastructure, equipment, and architecture.
Experience in the development, startup, and commissioning of the nLight Air and Wired networked lighting controls platform.
