This role will lead the transition of a legacy PHP application from CodeIgniter to Laravel, setting the architectural direction, mentoring other developers, and driving the successful delivery of a cloud-based web solution. The ideal candidate brings deep Laravel experience, full-stack capability, and a passion for solving complex problems with clean, scalable code. The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the Technical Lead for the team, guiding design, development, and deployment of modern Laravel-based applications. Architect and lead the migration of legacy CodeIgniter applications to Laravel, ensuring performance, scalability, and maintainability. Mentor team members and foster knowledge-sharing across the team. Write clean, secure, and efficient code, with a strong emphasis on documentation and testing. Review and approve code written by peers to maintain code quality and consistency. Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives via Microsoft Teams. Track time and deliverables accurately using internal tools and project tracking systems. Remain up to date with security best practices and modern development approaches. Demonstrate a self-directed approach to solving problems, continuous learning, and professional growth. Promote a user-first mindset and empathetic software design.
Required Skills and Experience:
8+ years of professional experience in full-stack PHP development, with deep expertise in Laravel. Proven experience transitioning applications from legacy frameworks (CodeIgniter) to Laravel. Excellent proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks, particularly Vue.js.
Strong understanding of front-end technologies:
HTML, CSS, and preprocessors like
SASS/LESS.
Proficiency with Git for version control and Unix/Linux command-line environments. Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs. Strong attention to detail and user-centric thinking. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Experience with Docker and containerized environments. Familiarity with AWS cloud services and deployment pipelines. Proficiency in SQL and relational database fundamentals. Experience building and maintaining large-scale, secure, and performant web applications. Prior experience working in healthcare or government contracting environments. Passion for developing polished and intuitive user interfaces.
