Professional Job Description:
This position is for the University’s open-source Learning Management System (LMS) in the Online & Continuing Education department. The Sr. Moodle Developer is responsible for performing systems analysis, application development, advanced troubleshooting and technical support utilizing a range of web technologies including but not limited to HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, AWS and GIT. This position also has expert knowledge in Moodle, the current LMS of choice of LSU OCE.
Job Responsibilities:
Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the university’s LMS, including complex enhancements to be contributed back to the open-source developer community, which includes contributing to the development and maintenance of LMS interfaces with custom student information systems. This work includes enhancing the platform’s plugins via custom software development, developing and managing the teams automated deployment tools via Jenkins/AWS and maintaining unit test using tools such as JUnit/MSTest. 40% Participate in the development, installation, testing, documentation and/or maintenance of state-of-the-art applications in support of the enterprise information needs of the LSU Online and Continuing Education. This work includes performing regular LMS upgrades and also architecting our long-term strategy for the Learning Management Systems across all our LSU campuses. 20% Assist other LSU Online and Continuing Education personnel in developing LMS-related curricula. Performs miscellaneous tasks across multiple concurrent projects as assigned by project managers and other leaders. This work includes managing our custom enrollment process, assisting faculty with any errors encountered when attempting to administer online classes, etc. 20% Maintain current knowledge of industry developments in technology affecting database and application development. This would include regularly attending trainings on software development best practices, the Agile Methodology, DevOps and also keeping up with the latest offerings of the LMS platform. This position serves as the Moodle technical subject matter expert for the department. 15% Other duties as assigned. 5%
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience as a software developer with experience as a PHP developer
Specific Experience:
Experience in developing, maintaining and supporting web-based software systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree with 7 years as a software developer with experience as a PHP developer
